Detailed April Results

Postby Mad Genius » Sun May 01, 2005 4:28 am

So as most of you know, I took an extended period of time off poker, about two months. I had initially decided that I would quit permanently, but I simply enjoy playing the game too much and I was eventually drawn back into it for obvious reasons. I concentrated on Multi-table tournaments for the most part, but ended up playing a fair amount of Sitngoes and Headsup in order to sustain my bankroll when I was going through a bad stretch of MTTs. I requested some basic statistics from PokerStars and here are the numbers for anyone that is interested.

SNGs (including HU):

Played: 113
Total Buyins: $8,648.00 + 6000FPPs
Juice: $568.25
Total Won: $13,612.50
Net: $4396.25

I played a wide range of things. In early April I was still playing some $50 Headsup to get back into shape, then I moved on to $100 Headsup. As far as SNGs went, I played quite a few $27+2 satellites as well as FPP satellites, and other than that mainly stuck to $100+9s and $200+15s, as well as experimenting a bit with $55+5s, $109+9s, and $210+15s, which are all Turbo SNGs. And a few $6.50s to blow off some steam. I'm pretty happy with my results as my ROI% here is at almost 50% (might have calculated wrong, but I did net profit/ (buyin+juice)). I don't want to sort out through all the mess to figure out what my ITM% for SNGs was but I figure ROI is what really matters, and I see that I have a lot more firsts than seconds which is what matters the most to me.

Tournaments:

Played: 113 (weird coincidence)
Total Buyins: $9,443.00
Juice: $554.50
Total Won: $16,685.21
Net: $6687.71

Here are a few things worth noting. WIth the exception of 3-4 PLHE tournaments, all the tournaments I played were NLHE. I mostly stuck to $50-200 freezeouts and $11-100 rebuy tournies. I had a fair amount of success, getting to 6 Final Tables and 11 10-18th finishes. Overall, I cashed 22 events, which to me feels good since only 10% of the field cashes and I'm hitting a solid 20% ITM ratio. As far as my ROI goes, it seems to be at about 68%. I'm aiming for a 100% ROI which I should be able to get after a couple more months of solid play.

Final Table Finishes:

$100+9 NLHE, finished 4th out of 209
$10+1 rebuy NLHE, finished 9th out of 1179
$150+12 NLHE, finshed 2nd out of 346
$100+9 NLHE Double-Shootout, finished 5th
$50+5 NLHE, finished 3rd out of 104
$50+5 PLHE, finished 1st out of 81

All in all, I am satisfied with my results. The only thing I am still unhappy with is the number of 12th and 13th place-type finishes I am having. I attribute this mainly to inexperience at the late stages of a tournament, but with time and practice that should no longer be a problem. I had a successful month, finishing 26th on April's Tournament Leader Board on Stars, and I'm hoping to improve upon my April results in May.

The one thing I dont like about tournies is this:

You won $11,000 which is outstanding obviously. Your ROI is awesome....BUT

You won $8300 in one of them. Im sure there mustve been at least a couple hands in that one where you couldve easily been busted. All in AQ vs A9 is great until the 9 hits and youre out.

You couldve easily lost as a big favorite, or got all in QQ vs KK or something and been out.

If you dont win the one $8300 tourny, then you only win $2700 for the month.

I guess what Im saying is that when you are concentrating on tournies, even when youre on your A game, you can easily have very disappointing results.

SNGs are much more consistent for a good player as are cash games.

Im not telling you to stop doing what youre doing, because you obviously are a very good tourney player. Im just pointing out that tourney players get disappointed alot even when theyre playing very well.

I agree wholeheartedly iceman. Tournies can be pretty high variance, and one hand can make the difference of thousands. The thing is, usually consistent, good multi players usually get 2-3 big scores a month, as they play enough tournies where they will have one or two luck (or not unlucky) tournies. I lose KK vs AT preflop allin for all my chips in that $150 tourney and I go home a $150 loser, which obviously would have been costly, but then again, there were so many other tournies where I bubbled or just missed out on the final table by losing a race or a 75/25, so in the end I'm hoping it will work out.
