Figuring out how much i need for a bankroll

Postby lvick04 » Tue Jul 05, 2005 10:19 am

Hey im just purchased PT and was wondering how much money i should start out with as a bankroll for .50/1$ no limit cash games. Based on a 10/hour rate, so that i cant withstand bad beats, bad runs etc.
Any replies to this post will be appreciated thanks.

$2000 would give you 20 buyins. Sounds like a lot...but thats really what you should have starting out.

Of course...your bankroll doesn't matter if you aren't a winning player.

Welcome to BTP

I have begun a rather lengthy BR article, that will no doubt take MUCH longer than expected...

Please do not take offense at these comments---We at BTP just try to help...

If you have to ask the question, you probably need a bigger BR than any minimum that anyone suggests...Unless you have supreme confidence, and have proven to yourself you can beat any level game, I highly suggest keeping 40 or 50 buy ins handy. Once you start beating the games regualrly, the BR just may take care of itself.

A rather long winded version of what kennyg said---

Of course...your bankroll doesn't matter if you aren't a winning player

Vic,

Most of us on BTP started with small bank rolls and built them up over a period of time to get to the .50 / 1.00 No Limit level. I started at .25 / .50 limit hold em with a $200 BR and after about 6 months reading, using PT and learning how to win I started making money and quit making regular deposits to replenish my BR. I've been at it just over a year now and am playing .50 / 1.00 No Limit. I consider myself an intermediate player and I am a winning player at my current level. My worst run at this level has been an $850 loss in a week and I think I was playing pretty solid ABC poker so the BR suggestions of 20 to 30 buy ins is not out of line in my opinion.

One thing no one mentioned is that if you are playing for enjoyment and are able to "re stock" the BR you can play at any level you want.

Good Luck
