GENERAL ONLINE BROLL QUESTION

Postby MecosKing » Thu Apr 21, 2005 9:24 pm

Whatup all?

Well, ill start by saying my broll management 'skills'can hardly be called that, as i dont keep very accurate records, i dont separate broll/other money, and i play outside my broll sometimes also.

As some of you guys might know if youve taken a peek at my journal, ive recently lost about 11-12k, about 1/3 of my net worth, takin a shot at some big games and getting destroyed. This sucks balls, dont get me wrong, but i was prepared for taking the shot and missing, and boy did i miss.

Anyways, i have been running, not exactly BADLY but very choppily in the games that i played in to build that bankroll, namely PP 10 and 15 SH and the local B&M 10/20 kill game. So, because of this, i have begun doing something that i never did before, and im wondering what you all think of it, if anything at all.

What i do is buyin to the online poker site for enough for a single session, then cashout at the end of that session, and if i lose the session money, then i either make a rebuy, or i dont - and if i lose that i generally quit- very much the same way as you might do in a B&M card room. Buddies of mine are like, WTF are you doing that for, and my response is why the hell not--people in B&M rooms have been doing that for years, and they have made plenty of money that way...I do it, probably somewhat because i have lost some confidence in my game, i admit, but also, it seems to make sense especially at short handed, because SH tends to be a high variance game and a game of runs, and i have run up a $500 buyin to 4kk, and then fired it all off without cashing out a single red cent!

I did this recently, though it wasnt for 4k, it was more like, 2500. But still, thats gay.

On the other hand though, one could say, well, if you were going to lose that money, then you were going to lose it one way or the other, be it in the form of your next 5 buyins, or be it in the form of all your profits for one buyin. I mean, i dunno if thats true or not...I wasnt playin too bad, and my cards werent completely dead, i was just having a really awful run.

So, ive been doin recently what ive said, and i dunno.

I guess it doesn't matter much one way or the other if you withdraw or not just whatever works for you. I might suggest that if you wanted to withdraw after a session when up then why not plunk down 6 to 8 K in the site to play the 1020's and if you are ahead of that mark at the end of the session withdraw your winnings and if not just let it stay in until you are. That way you don't have to ever mess with putting money in again and take out frequently when you're ahead.

Piers-

Your right i should deposit a decent chunk...But what can i say, im a little leery right now because of my recent losses, and then my very SLOW creep back into it (like, ill book some winners, then lose a decent amt back, then a little more winners, etc)

I think the major reason i dont just put in a big chunk is because i think that i often start getting out of line when i have a huge BR-- like i try and pull off really elaborate plays that i could write like, a 5 page essay on why they are just soooo cool, and then endup losing a buttload on em in the end, then bitching later 'God what an AWFUL PLAYER that guy was! I KNEW he didnt have a decent hand! HOW COULD HE CALL A CR ON THE TURN WITH DEUCE FIVE, THIRD PAIR / NO KICKER?! AND GOD I HAD SO MANY OUTS, HOW DID I MISS?!?!'

I think that this frequent cashing and not too big of buyins is going to be my plan of action for a bit, until i start feelin a little better about my game, and also like i can play disciplined enough that having a big online broll wont start causin me to play bad. Has anyone else had this happen to em at all? Like, win alot, have a big broll, and then start playin too LAGgy and fancily? it seems pretty logical to me--then again i have a general lack of discipline, so that might also explain it.

I think keepin 1k in there should be decent enough to 2 table 10/20 SH? Piers, you play those games these days, right? What do you think of 1k for 2 tablin the 6 max tables? or 500? 500 too little (250/table)? In between 500/1k?
