A3s in LP

Thoughts on this one? UTG and the guys behind me were all somewhat loose. CO has only been in for 12 hands or so, but has played half of them and raised a third of them.

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with [As], [3s].
UTG calls, 3 folds, Hero calls, CO raises, 3 folds, UTG calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (7.50 SB) [9h], [5s], [9s] (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks, CO bets, UTG folds, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.75 BB) [3d] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets, Hero calls.

River: (6.75 BB) [Jh] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 8.75 BB

Norton,

I really think you played this hand too passively. Your river call doesn't bother me at all, but I think you should've given him the opportunity to fold on either the flop or the turn. I'd definitely prefer either a bet on the flop or a check-raise on the turn, or even a stop'n'go (check-call the flop, lead out the turn) over just calling down.

As I said though, given the way you played the hand, I think the river-call is fine. Had you put him to the test earlier in the hand and he continued to be aggressive, you might lay down on the river.

I would've folded to that river bet

Preflop thru turn I dont think is totally wrong but I would've fired one on that flop.

i fold preflop with only one caller to you with a weak suited ace. i don't see a reason to get involved. If you do and think you have the best hand or represent one, I would prefer a raise preflop.

I agree with Bri about preflop -- I think this should be dumped. Perhaps if the guys behind me were 50% VP$IP types you could make an argument for limping in, but for guys who are only somewhat loose the pot just won't be multiway often enough.

I also agree with TW -- I played this way too passively. I should have represented the 9 by leading or check raising the turn.

Striker, I don't think there's any way I can't call this down, given the way it was played. Someone who's raising just isn't going to have a pair every time, especially someone who raises too often and is raising in late position. That jack could have hurt me (another argument for aggression on the turn), but he'll have nothing here often enough to call with 7.5:1 pot odds.

First, I play any suited ace in LP in limit. Yes, I'm loose, me and my 20.5% VP$IP.

For my impression, you HAVE to bet that flop. If you get raised, fear the set, but stay in to see that next card. The 3 gives you two pair with the best kicker. What are you afraid of here? Either the guy has a set, or he has a 5 in his hand. That's all you need to be worried about.

God I hate it when TW is right. But nonetheless, i like the stop n go here. I actually personally wouldve CRed the flop and led the turn, figuring there was no way hed call and id make an extra bet out of it, and of course keeping with my philosophy of playing the nut flush draw as if its already gotten there.

But the stop n go is a very common way that that EPers play trips, because as greedy as thier mizorly little hearts are, they look at that crappy board and think of what a disaster itll be if it gets checked behind then mucked on the river, so they check/call the flop planning a CR, then when the turn comes ragged, they decide they better bet out, because check/check/bet/fold would keep them up all night.. This wouldve been the perfect play for you here, because you could represent the big hand while protecting your actual hand, while being able to stand a raise, since you still had outs against a better hand.

And, as you all can see from the fact that im throwing in my unsolicited 2 cents about every hand posted, i have lots of work im procrastinating from. But luckily, i dont NEED to practice law really- not till I Bust anyway.
