After just starting to play limit again after a long time I've been starting to wonder why there is a maximum of 4 bets per round. And also why some sites allow an unlimited number of bets when heads up.

What's the basis of this tradition? What purpose does it serve? I like the uncapped number of bets, handy for when someone wants to play against you when you have quads.

Crypto sites don't cap when heads up, haven't played limit on many sites so they're the only ones I know.

Is collusion the only reason? Bit too arbitary, why not 3 or 5?
