Can anyone fold this river?

Postby Pok 7's » Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:07 pm

I'm kicking myself here because I KNEW what he had (I'm sure all of you will know exactly how this story ends so I'm posting the results) but it this really a hand anyone is laying down? By the way this has been my last few weeks

Honestly, I can't really see folding that. But on the other hand, you have to imagine that you are behind. Unfortunately, I'm calling the river also.

I gotta call, theres enough of an edge there, it MAY be +EV to call that. If you think about it, very few hands beat you, but all of them are betting that river.

Agreed. I think its a clear fold since there's no way he has a [Td] or worse in his hand, which is the best hand you can beat. But us limit players know it often pays to be a showdown muppet, and we use that as an excuse to make calls we have no business making. So basically sir, I think you did the wrong thing, but can't find it in my heart to fault you for it.

Meh, I'd call this and not blink. It only takes the occasional donk who thinks they can get you off your hand by betting the 4 flush to make it worth it. Unless it's a live game where I can get a >95% read somtimes I'm calling. Online, I'm calling this all day long.

I dunno, sometimes we all forget that 99% of the people we are up against don't read books and don't argue about hands on forums. They just play and forget about the hand 10 seconds later.

This guy may have been sick of you raising when he limps. He might think you are an over-aggressive bully. He may have limped with QQ (noQd), JJ, 1010,99,88 and then when you raised decided to show you he won't be pushed around so reraised. Then the crappy KK flop came but he resolved to call it down because he thinks you are donking around with 77 or some other cheese. But in the back of his mind he is worried you have a K. So the 4 flush A hits which is the king of all scare cards so he bets it trying to win the pot in a last ditch effort (since he is a weak player and would have called a bet anyway, probably a good idea if he can fold to a raise).

This scenerio is not that uncommen as it sounds. People make ridculous plays all the time and sometimes on the river in a big pot we have to be a POW. I posted a hand in one of Pok's threads about a guy who checkraised me and another player on the turn on a complete bluff in a three way raised pot and then donked the river with 3-high against two players who showed strength the whole way on a paired 4 flush board. Odds of this working <1%. So you just don't know what people are thinking sometimes.
