Correct to Bet into PF3-bet on the Flop?

Postby MTPaid » Sat Mar 17, 2007 4:45 pm

1/2 FR
SB - Imbecile (59/16/30) who caps KQo preflop
UTG+2 - Loose passive calling station (29/0/26) - Open limped JJ and called down when Ace hit in another hand.
CO - Least amount of hands 50, but only player I have any respect for (22/8/21)

I'm MP1 [Ks][Js]
UTG+2 limps, I raise hoping to isolate, CO 3-bets, SB calls 2.5, UTG+2 calls 2, I call

[Jh][8s][6d] Pot 13 SB
SB checks, UTG+2 checks.

Right now I'm pretty sure CO has a strong hand. I don't think he'd 3-bet with AJ because I've been TAG. I'm thinking big pair or AK. Let's say I'm pretty sure he will raise if I bet. If I give myself about 6 outs to 2 pair + backdoor flush and the very slight possibility that I may have the best hand here is it still correct to bet? Reason being that I want to chase the other players out of the pot.

I did bet, CO raised, and SB and UTG+2 both called (sucks) as did I.

[6h] Pot 10.5 BB
Checked to CO who bets, all call

[2s] Pot 14.5 BB
Checked to CO who bets, SB folds, UTG+2 calls.....

2nd question: Pot is 16.5 BB. I have top pair. I'm almost positive I'm beaten here. Should I fold even though I'm getting 16.5 - 1 and save myself a bet vs 2 players? I have no idea what UTG+2 has, but CO has to have me beat right?

PS - I played a lot of interesting hands in a short time span today against some very loose and very bad players on bad boards. I'm going to be posting some more hands in my journal if anyone's interested.

I dont like betting into him here. If we assume we are behind then why would we want to set up a heads up encounter with him? I would rather see you check/call and keep the others in the pot to provide padding for you draw....assuming you are behind (as you feel you are).

The other thing to consider is that these clowns arent folding anyway, so leading will probably only serve to bloat the pot because these donks will call 2-bets....again, not bad if we are behind and drawing. (i felt that they would call before I saw that they called)

I tend to agree that he has you beat but I dont think you can fold on river. I dont like overcalling, but you can ignore UTG+2 and think of his as a heads up hand.

I would bet out the flop for the same reasons u did.

On the river u need more then a 6% chance that u have the winning hand.

It´s close. I would probably fold though because of the overcall and that someone atleast is keeping him honest.

Okay, true, you've got odds against QQ. I suppose for both turn and river, you'd want to come up with a hand range and some probabilities as to what he holds. AA-QQ, and AK I'm guessing are in the mix. I don't know if this guy raises when he's got limpers with weaker hands. I would run some numbers, but I'm too tired atm. At any rate, that's sort of what you need to do to figure out how to play against his range with your hand.
