A couple of hands, one played well, the other not so well

Postby piersmajestyk » Sat Feb 19, 2005 12:02 pm

Here are a couple of hands from today. The first one I played it very well and maximized my win and in the second one I left some money on the table which I dislike doing and the way the hand went down I should not have made this mistake. See if you can guess the hands and perhaps some analyses after. I am the Big Blind in both hands.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop:
1 fold, UTG+1 raises, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, 3 folds, BB calls.

Flop: (8.50 SB) [4s], [Ks], [4h] (4 players)
BB bets, UTG+1 raises, MP1 calls, MP3 folds, BB calls.

Turn: (7.25 BB) [Th] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 bets, MP1 calls, BB raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls.

River: (13.25 BB) [Tc] (3 players)
BB bets, UTG+1 calls, MP1 folds.

Final Pot: 15.25 BB

Hand 2

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop:
2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 4 folds, BB checks.

Flop: (3.40 SB) [8c], [5d], [Ts] (3 players)
BB bets, MP1 raises, MP2 calls, BB calls.

Turn: (4.70 BB) [Jd] (3 players)

River: (10.70 BB) [As] (3 players)

Hand 1, I think you have something like 54s and your villian has AK.

Hand 2, You had 97 and feared a higher straight on the river where you lost some bets. Your opponent has AT.

Hand 1 you had the 4, probably 54 or 64, and bet out hoping UTG+1 would raise to charge the flush draws. He has AA or AK.

Hand 2 you flopped two pair and were worried that MP1 made a better two pair.

Pretty nice work Briachek. The first hand I called the raise with 24s getting 7.5 to 1 on my call. Very nice flop and it leads back again to what I said about leading into a raiser. No one expects you to bet with 3 fours here so you really haven't blown your disguise. Right on queu the preflop raiser raises me and gets some other poor guy to call 2 cold. Now you check the turn showing weakness and let him bet again and trap them both for 2 Big Bets on the turn. I think this is a much better way to play it than just waiting on the turn to try and checkraise. For a couple of reasons of which one is the raiser may not bet the turn if you just check and called the flop because I think the flop call by the big blind is much more scarier than the flop bet here. But even if you went for CR and it worked here you still have extracted 2 extra small bets that you would not have gotten had you just check called the flop. Many times it is better to play differently than the large majority of your opponents play a hand and this is one of those cases where nearly everyone thinks he can't have a 4 as he would have waited for the turn to CR.

The second hand I really screwed the river in my opinion. This was a ragged flop so I took a chance with betting out with 79o hoping to perhaps win it there or if not I still had several outs. Well the raise defiantely wasn't in my plan but the Jack on the turn was very nice. When I raised here and didn't get reraised the Q9 is definately out of the picture and when the river A hits I shouldn't be worried about the KQ because I know the raiser doesn't have it and the only way the last guy doesn't raise if he does have it is he is looking for me to reraise and trap us all for 4 bets which is VERY unlikely. The first raiser had as expected A10 and the late guy had AK. Screw myself out of 2 BB by not taking a couple of extra seconds to act. Lesson, it doesn't hurt to think a second or two about your decisions before clicking that mouse button.

Hand 1:
yeah that leading out with a set works well in NL too. Disguses the power of your hand. Though..if I were playing my 3/6 limit game and got raised on the turn there with AK in my hand...I would consider folding. I may just be a tightwad :)

Hand 2:
I would have played it the same...probably would have capped the river...but then again you never know with these limit players ;-) If one of them showed KQ i would smack them!

I don't get free money like with MG and Kenny for guessing right? What a rip! 8-)

I can read your mind piers. Looks like I'm ready to go pro.
