Did I play this hand well?

Postby dragon2187 » Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:32 pm

Or should I read my books again?

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop: dragon2187 is UTG+1 with [Ah], [Qs].
1 fold, dragon2187 calls, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 raises, CO calls, 3 folds, dragon2187 calls, MP1 calls.

Flop: (9.50 SB) [Th], [Jh], [Jd] (4 players)
dragon2187 bets, MP1 folds, MP3 calls, CO folds.

Turn: (5.75 BB) [Kc] (2 players)
dragon2187 checks, MP3 bets, dragon2187 raises, MP3 3-bets, dragon2187 caps, MP3 calls.

River: (13.75 BB) [9h] (2 players)
dragon2187 bets, MP3 raises, dragon2187 calls.

Final Pot: 17.75 BB

Results in white below:
dragon2187 has Ah Qs (straight, ace high).
MP3 doesn't show.
Outcome: dragon2187 wins 17.75 BB.

Edit: Actually, MP3 had JJ giving him 4 of a kind. Don't know why the output was wrong.

I could have sworn that when you showed this to me the guy had pocket jacks for four of a kind here...

I would prefer to raise it myself preflop if I'm gonna play. Otherwise I don't see too much of a problem with the hand.

Preflop: You have to raise that every single time.

Flop: Well if you had raised preflop it would make this a lot easier. I don't really like the leadout here, you've got a backdoor flush draw and a gutshot, you don't know where your overcards stand because you didn't raise preflop (see a trend here). I'd probably check/call

Turn: Well if you lead the flop you have to lead the turn then, it looks way too much like JK to anyone thinking (this is party .50/1 though, so I guess a checkraise is alright). See if you lead out and he raises, you 3 bet he caps, you can check call river he most likely has the full. Since you capped it you have to lead river, and you'll lose another bet to his full house which will be there more often then not (for most cases, party .50/1 can be a different monster though)

River: I may check/call this since the flush got there too, this is about as bad a board as you can get for a straight.

I'm guessing he had an overplayed AK and you lucksacked yourself it on the turn.

So your play was alright, but please next time raise that preflop, I don't know what book tells you not to do that.

Really, guys, The hand history converter messed up here. The guy had JJ and took it down. He pasted it to me in AIM.

My advice to him was to raise preflop and to lead the turn, three-bet if necessary, but if it's capped, check-call the river.
