Donkeydom At The 2/4 Yesterday

Postby Tiburon » Wed Jun 22, 2005 4:35 pm

I got stuck for $70 yesterday playing 2/4 (luckily I was making it back at 3/6). Here's two hands where I lost a good chunk of it. Comment away.

I figure I overplayed the first a bit, but the guy was already known as a Donkey:

PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed)
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [As], [Kh].
4 folds, Hero raises, 3 folds, SB =Donkey calls, 1 fold.
Flop: (5 SB) [5d], [7d], [7c] (2 players)
Donkey bets, Hero raises, Donkey 3-bets, Hero calls.
Turn: (5.50 BB) [5c] (2 players)
Donkey checks, Hero bets, Donkey raises, Hero calls.
River: (9.50 BB) [3s] (2 players)
Donkey bets, Hero calls.
Final Pot: 11.50 BB
Results in white below:
Donkey has 6c 5h (full house, fives full of sevens).
Hero has As Kh (two pair, sevens and fives).
Outcome: Donkey wins 11.50 BB.

I have no idea why ANYONE would call a raise from the SB with 65o, especially to a player who has been TAGging it up at the table. I was actually up about $20 at the time, and had over double the chips he did. You can't blame him for playing it the way he did past the flop, but 65o?

And then THIS big blind special:

PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed)
Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with [9h], [Ac]. Donkey posts a blind of $2.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls, 2 folds, MP3 calls, CO = Donkey checks, 2 folds, BB checks.
Flop: (5.50 SB) [9s], [5h], [Jh] (5 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, MP3 calls, Donkey raises, BB folds, UTG+1 folds, Hero calls, MP3 calls.
Turn: (5.75 BB) [4h] (3 players)
Hero bets, MP3 folds, Donkey calls.
River: (7.75 BB) [4s] (2 players)
Hero bets, Donkey calls.
Final Pot: 9.75 BB
Results in white below:
Hero has 9h Ac (two pair, nines and fours).
Donkey has 5s Js (two pair, jacks and fives).
Outcome: Donkey wins 9.75 BB.

I can't really fault him for his post-flop play. He flopped two pair, and I overplayed both hands. It just aggravated me that this guy was playing like a donkey ALL DAY and hitting, while I lost money at this table.

Jealousy doesn't look good on me, does it?

And with regard to the title, yes, I realize that for these two hands, the donkey was actually me.

LoL. Yeah the AK hand was pretty bad. Still, at least you didnt laydown the best hand in a $400ish pot like i did. Although that AK hand is pretty damn interesting, truth be told, because if he was an average player, he played it in such a way that i mightve called him down also (although if i were betting i wouldnt call the turn raise i dont think)

On a ragged board like that, against a TAGgy PF raiser, he overplayed his crappy pair alot by 3 betting, so i would necessarily put him on that, and if he had a 7, id think if he WAS gonna lead, hed probly call the raise and go for the turn CR-and if he was a typical muppet-like player, hed check/call the flop with a 7 and go for the CR later too.

And honestly, when i see someone reraising me when i raised PF when the board comes so raggedy that anyone doing that with a pair would be way overplaying, i start to put them on a steal with a flush or straight draw, because more often than not someone with a monster doesnt jammit up on the flop if they think they can get a turn CR in...So when i see it will call down and beat them (and sometimes, i will get my ass handed to me of course)

ON the other hand if i know the player and hes a smart player and knows that most of the time you make more in those situations by jamming it, then id muck it to him without question. Without a read, i mightve called this guy down, but in the wake of a turn raise, id have given it to him. As Ricardooon once said, on the flop, its a contest to see who has the biggest nuts. But by the turn, its about who actually has the bigger cock.

The A9, eh... not as interesting of a hand as the first one- I I prob. wouldve laid that in most circumstances at a full ring table. Short handed, HU id probly call that one down.

If you liked that, you'll LOVE this one:

PokerStars 3/6 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [Ah], [Qd].
2 folds, Hero raises, 2 folds, CO =#A500AF(Moron)/ calls, 3 folds.

Flop: (5.33 SB) [Qc], [Qs], [7c] (2 players)
Hero bets, Moron calls.

Turn: (3.66 BB) [8s] (2 players)
Hero bets, Moron raises, Hero 3-bets, Moron caps, Hero calls.

River: (11.66 BB) [Kd] (2 players)
Hero bets, Moron raises, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 15.66 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Ah Qd (three of a kind, queens).
Moron has Qh 7h (full house, queens full of sevens).
Outcome: Moron wins 15.66 BB.
