Easy live hand line check x 2

Postby growlers » Sun Jun 10, 2007 2:58 pm

Ok, guys I am going to put down two hands because they are both pretty simple, but I was wondering if anyone plays them differently. This is kind of a "line check" as I think I played them correctly.
Game is live $4-8 1/2 kill, I am trying to only play 8-16 now but I was 17th on that list
All players are pretty awful unless noted.

1st hand: I have [9h] [9d] in MP1.
UTG straddles to $8  , I of course three-bet to $12, button and CO both cold call $12   , blinds fold, straddler calls.
Flop (4 players, $54 pot)
[Qc] [9s] [2d]
UTG bets, I call, CO and button call.
Turn: [4d]
UTG bets, I????

Do I raise now or the river?

2nd hand: I have [Ks] [Kc] in the BB.
Semi-tight passive old rock limps UTG, CO (good player) calls, button call, SB folds, I raise to $8, UTG now three-bets, CO calls, button folds, I call.
Flop: (3 payers, $42)
[Jc] [Td] [2s]
I check, UTG bets, CO calls, I check-raise to get CO out, UTG now three-bets, CO folds, I call.
Turn (heads-up): [Js]
I ??????????

Do I lead and fold to a raise, call down the UTG rock, or do I check -fold?
Can I get away from this before showdown?

Hand 1 I typically raise the turn. Make any gutters pay the max.

Hand 2 I get to showdown cheaply, but heres a thought. If you flop play was about trying to get CO out of the hand, wouldn't it have been better to lead into the raise who is raising almost always in this spot? That faces CO with calling 2. The line you took is appropriate if you want to trap him and keep him in the hand.

Good point - when I checked the flop I expected UTG to bet and CO to fold nearly every time- he wasn't happy about putting in three bets preflop (I could tell from his expression), so when it came back to me I made the decision to checkraise on the fly since I didn't think the CO would call again and I was right.
You are clearly correct, but I didn't mean to imply that was why I checked the flop initially.
My initial plan was to just call down the UTG, figuring it was a WA/WB situation, which may not be the best plan, I wasn't planning on CO calling but I sure didn't want all of us seeing the turn.

Just a question on Hand 1for all you guys who have the percentages memorized.

Even though I would normally play it as suggested with a turn raise, how bad EV wise would it be to call turn/raise river with those 2 potential callers behind you? I mean you have the best hand already most likely and you have more outs to boating up on the river than they do of hitting their straight draws right? Just curious. Thought it might be a decent alternate myself but I'd like to know the numbers.

Hand #2

I would have led into the rock that is UTG. Then he will raise and we can get rid of that damn CO. As for the turn I would go for a c\r. A check fold is way to weak and a fold to a raise is weak too. Think about this. He is a rock and he is UTG. He is not limp-RR with AJ or JJ. It is eaither AA,KK,or maybe QQ. That jack on the turn is great card for you to try the c/r. However, i don't know this player you were aganst. A call down could be OK to!
