A fucking annoying hand

Postby MecosKing » Mon Jan 22, 2007 3:28 pm

Alright most of the time i post hands not because i want anyones advice but just cuz im bored...FINE I ADMIT IT! Buuuuut- in this particular sitcheeashun im a little curious what you other SHLHE players would call 'standard'- No reads, as i just sat down...

Dealt to SnuffinU: [9h] [Ah]
Player 3: Fold
SnuffinU: Raise ($6)
Player 5: Fold
Player 6: Raise ($9)
Player 1: Fold
Player 2: Fold
SnuffinU: Call ($3)
** Dealing Flop **
Community cards: [Qd] [4c] [2d]
SnuffinU: Check ($0)
Player 6: Bet ($3)
SnuffinU: FUCK!!

So i came in UTG+1 with A9s, which is pretty reasonable- if im in a really nitty mood i might fold that (but always raise with 98s and T9s if that makes any sense) - so i get threebet and flop complete and utter nothingness. DO i just check fold here and giveup my 3sb without a fight at all?

Does anyone four bet preflop here, figuring that if im up against a better ace then the only way im gonna win this pot is by us both missing and me being in the drivers seat? Or am i up against a PP that wlil autoshowdown against me often enough that this would amount to a chipspew (i.e. losing like 400 thousand BB in a little squabble over what should be a 3bb pot?) I used to do 4 bet thing fairly often at the 10/20s on partypoker, but mizors here showdown thier acehighs a bit more often than the partypoker mizors...at least i think they do, either that or ive lost some cajones...thoughts?

Take it for what it's worth since I'm mostly a 1/2 player with a splash of 2/4 experince, so I might be way off here.

So what you're saying is you got 3 bet holding an A9 with no reads.... On the flop you're beat by AT+ and any PP, or any piece he might have connected with. You have no draw other to a A which might be outckicked or maybe me him 2 pair, and a 9 which may or may not be any good at all......... And we're out of position on top of all that. Let's see what the flop brings should we need help

On the flop we're looking at a 3.5 BB pot with nothing but an A high, borderline decent kicker with possibly few if any outs. What exactly is your plan of attack?

Maybe I'm more on the cautious side here but I think this is a pretty easy fold.

See pok this is kindof an example of what im talkin about.-- course AQ is alot better than A9s, but either way same result if i had A9s...and yead red i know its a fold, i just hate folding any and all hands, you know that..

I see what ya mean, now was that at a table where you had some reads or no?

When I have no reads on any of the players I generally won't go crazy and stick to a more ABC approach. If it turns out this guy is a maniac, you'll probably make it back plus. If he's more of a straightfoward player you might have saved some bets. If he's a station who the hell knows what may have happened.

Uusually more often than not when I try something like this against an unknown player I'm usually running into a hand most of the time. Maybe it's just my timing sucks, I dunno.

I fold here too. Make a note that he leads into you after you 3 bet him and make use of it later.

Also, I don't really like raising 98s and T9s UTG. You don't flop a strong hand often enough, and it's tough to fold people off things like a J on a KJx flop. I'd much rather have A9s here.
