Guess the hands

Postby piersmajestyk » Tue Feb 22, 2005 9:24 pm

Well this was about the one bright spot in a day of slaughter at the 36 limit tables. Let's see if you can ferret out my hand here as well as the others. I am the first one in the pot with the raise.

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop:
2 folds, UTGC raises, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 2 folds, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (12 SB) [5c], [5d], [Jc] (6 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTGC bets, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Turn: (8 BB) [7h] (4 players)
BB checks, UTGC checks, MP2 bets, Button calls, BB calls, UTGC raises, MP2 calls, Button calls, BB folds.

River: (15 BB) [Ah] (3 players)
UTGC checks, MP2 checks, Button checks.

Final Pot: 15 BB

I'm guessing AA.
If you're gonna play trash, expect it to get taken out.

(I hate those people who quote themselves, but that's one of my original lines).

Piers,

First off, you came in from EP with a raise, so I'll start by narrowing your range to: AQ, AK, 99-AA. Could be a little off on your exact standards. On the flop, you come out betting, which doesn't really narrow your range too much...but then things get interesting on the turn where you check-raise.

I presume the check-raise was with the following logic; with two callers, chances are one paired a jack, so you'll now probably have the opportunity to charge him and the other opponent (who could very well be on a flush draw) with two large bets. At this point, you could reasonably be put on JJ-AA, but your river check seems to rule out JJ and AA. So QQ and KK seem to be the remaining options. I would guess you'd be at least slightly more like to do the check-raise with KK than QQ, so if I had to guess one hand, it'd be KK.

As for your opponents, a quick guess would be to put MP2 (the turn bettor) on a decent jack hand (JT, QJ or KJ), and the button on a flush draw.

I'm guessing KK or QQ for you, KJ for MP2, and the flush draw for the button.

Heh, TightWad beat me to the punch on that one, and nicely written out too. Just change my answer to "ditto". :)
