Hand at games grid

Postby starstealer » Tue Apr 19, 2005 9:53 pm

I'm going to do my best to remember the action of this hand. Tables at games grid are 9-handed and this is a $2/$4 Limit Hold'em table.

I'm the SB I believe and a very-solid player in early to mid position raises and it is folded around to me. If it helps the "very solid player" is in fact Piers...

What kind of hand would you call a raise with here?

I had A4s (clubs) and decided to call. Yes, I know I am fully dominated by a bigger ace - but frankly, I know Piers can make that raise without the ace - so I'm willing to speculate. Also, I have pushed him off of two other pots, so if the flop is scary to him - I figure I might be able to win the pot in another way.

In any case, the flop is QQ4 with a club - what would you do?

Now - I've asked Piers to remember his hand as well - and I'll cover what I did in another post in the morning. It might just be a pretty cut and dry hand - but it struck me with possibilities when I was faced with it.

Hmmmmm...First off, Piers is a ROCK...His hand is pretty much guaranteed to have you dominated in the 70-75% range, either because he's got a better ace, or because he's got a pocket pair and you'll need to hit your ace. Since you don't know which, I really think calling here is asking for trouble.

Nevertheless, I'd call, because it would be fun to try and show up Piers.

Now I'm stuck in a hand I shouldn't be stuck in, but I don't think there's too good a chance I'm ahead on that flop. If he has AK, I'm ahead. Anything else he'd raise with, I'm behind, unless he's gettin freaky...BUT, I might be able to push him off by representing a queen. Therefore, I'd bet out the flop, hoping to be raised (which I'd call), and then check-raise the turn.

But honestly, if I had been trying to muscle him out of pots a good bit, I doubt I'd get him off of something like JJ or TT, so I wouldn't bother trying.

Incidentally, I'll add that the way I described above would probably just lose me a bit more money to Piers...but hell, I'd give it the ol' college try. :D

fold preflop but if you want to continue the hand, you got to try stuff like TW said and represent the Q because the only hand I put him on that he could have hit was AQ (QQ too but thats unlikely). Because hes a rock, you might push him off but he might call you down with a pocket pair because he knows you know a lot about him. My head hurts.
