Hey guys, just want to introduce myself

Postby Acehawk74 » Thu Jun 30, 2005 3:06 am

Hey everyone =) Just joined the site, and have been playing poker for about 3 weeks now. Just a bit of background on myself and my game....

I am a Finance student in FL, married with no kids.
I initially started like most players in poker, by putting some cash into a site like party poker, winning (luckily mind you  ) and then loosing it all. I only lost a minimal amount, but enough to shake my brains. Since that first 3 days, I have educated myself a bit, and am currently building up a game. I have read Lee Jones book... Version 2, currently re-reading Ed Miller's Getting Started in Hold'em, and Small Stakes Hold'em by Sklansky, Miller, Malmuth. I love this game, and am excited to get involved in the community here as well =D Lined up, i have Theory of Poker (can't wait) and currently am building a bankroll on the micros in a few sites playing micros, up to .25/.5.

Ok  ... thats about it! Again, just wanted to introduce myself, and i cant' wait to start chatting/learning/helping with you all!

Cheers!
:D

Hey, always nice to have another contributor! Best advice I can give you is to just post any hands you're not sure about, and don't ever be embarassed about posting. We all used to be neophytes (and some of us, like Briachek for example, still play like one), and you'll definitely get some great advice from guys like Piers and...well, piers anyway. You'll also probably get some useless/vulgar/random comments from MecosKing or myself, so be prepared for that eventuality.

First off, Titeys hair isnt naturally red. Its just my damn kidney stones, is all. Gotta take care of that.

Secondly, welcome to the forums acehawk!! I cant tell you exactly who id listen to on here. It sort of depends on what your going for i guess.

If you want to learn about how to checkraise someone off thier set with Q7o, no pair no draw, and then flame em later when they call, since it shouldve been obvious that you made a straight, talk to Tightwad.

If you want to focus your game more around post-showdown play, youll need to learnthe intricacies of bitching and complaining, including learning all the different terms for 'bad poker player' that are currently in existence, developing new such phrases, and be able to callup said phrases at a moments notice and hurl them towards multiple unsuspecting players all at once without so much as a stutter. Sounds fun huh? Talk to Bri on this one.

And lastly, if you want to focus your game around AA, your gonna have to learn to discipline yourself and muck KK in a heads up pot against the BB REGARDLESS if you have money in in the SB already, because your positional disadvantage is just too great to overcome. 92o is a 623:8 favorite against you here! Piers is the go-to guy on this one.

Hmm. i think i covered everyone. Oh wait, theres me. I focus much more on metagame principles. For example, even if i KNOW someone has AA, i will call 3 bets cold with 24o because of the implied odds. Think about it. If he flops a set of aces, the chances are ive flopped a wheel!! Or at least a damn pretty lookin running draw to one. In fact, i generally call with any 2, suited or not, even if i know someone has an overpair, because of the implied odds i have to flop 2 pair, trips, or better. I net approximately -6.75bb/100 doing this, and truth be told, I am fine with that.

So as you can see, you are in the company of some of the best!
