how to play KJo in this situation

Postby gutsh0t » Sun Jan 08, 2006 11:51 pm

These situations seem tricky to me, How would you play KJo, with no particular reads on your opponents?

$1/$2 6MAX
1. i'm pretty sure this is a raising hand to everyone, so i raised preflop, but then the Button who originally limps in, now 3 bets it....anyone fold here?
2. missed flop, but i continued to call his bet....is this supposed to be an esay fold? I put him on an high Ace, and the flop looked like it didnt help so i called hoping to catch a card....but the board is connected which i noticed after i had called the bet oops...
3. My read on the villian turned out to be correct, but say this was heads up...would anyone call the flop here and fold turn like i did?

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Jc], [Kd].
UTG calls, MP calls, 1 fold, Button calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, UTG calls, MP calls, Button 3-bets, Hero calls, UTG calls, MP calls.

Flop: (12.50 SB) [7h], [8h], [6c] (4 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Button bets, Hero calls, UTG calls, MP calls.

Turn: (8.25 BB) [Ad] (4 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Button bets, Hero folds, UTG folds, MP calls.

River: (10.25 BB) [2h] (2 players)
MP bets, Button calls.

Final Pot: 12.25 BB

If you think he has A high on the flop, why would you call? You either raise or fold there. I raise KJo unless I'm UTG in 6max, then I fold it. And if I raise and the limper three bets, I think you have plenty of odds to call.

I personally think raising is a lot better than calling preflop with that hand.

The preflop raise is similar to what you'd do with KQ in that situation, though I think there's a big difference between those two hands. You're trying to build the pot with what you believe is close to the best hand. I don't know 6max at all but I wont raise KJ in the blind like that, I will raise QK,AQ and AK though. As for your play, fold the flop, he 3 bet which could mean strength (suited connectors more likely though), and there are too many cards on turn or river you don't want to see.

I have read this...and re read...Call me confused---I have VERY little experience at SH...

You have 3 limpers-you are OOP, you have a marginal hand (to me)---why raise ?...

why continue on the flop? the check raiser bet (granted he was button) ...To me, I want to hit the flop hard or go away fast...Is this too weak tight for 6 max?

i've been playing 6max exclusively for the past 2 months and have over 20k hands played
...and with KJo i've been playing it the same way, i always raise with it if there have been no raises before me. most people are limping in with like King 9, queen 8, 45suited, etc...

but yeah i know the flop play kinda sucked, being a coordinated board and 2 to a flush out there, i didnt realize that until the turn where i promptly folded.

i'm now averging 4.91 BB/100 hands and KJo is a winner by far in my book.

About rasing KJo, that's fine by me if there were any doubt, but the flop is an incredibly easy fold. His limp reraise states either extreme strength like bullets, or suited connectors which you also hate on this flop. And if you put him on a high ace then you can't call when behind hoping to hit something that could easily be his kicker(AK, AJ).
