Live hand vs. CS OOP 3/6

Postby Danhdan » Mon Mar 12, 2007 10:28 pm

I made a bit of a play that I just wanted a quick opinion on.

I have [Jh] [4h] in the BB. 4 limpers, SB completes, I check. Flop is [Kd] [Js] [4c]. At the same time as the SB checking, the button bets out. He's a pretty bad poker player, and also a big CS who is pretty passive most of the time. He thought he was in the SB...yep, that is how bad live players are normally.

Anyway, I looked at the table and after the button took his bet back and the SB checked, I fired out. My thinking for this was because of the fact this guy wanted to bet obviously, me firing out would make my hand look really strong to every and those caught in between would fold. My goals were to get heads up with this guy and see a decently cheap showdown because although I didn't really think my opponent had KK or JJ here, I knew for certain he didn't have any draw, and there was a decent chance I was completely dominated. There was also a decent chance he had Kx too, but the fact he had a made hand was completely apparent.

Anyone like this bet into the strength here? The last hand I think I bet out with from the BB, I had top set on a 943 board and bet into the preflop raiser.

I like it. This is not a monster, lets get this heads up with the guy who thinks hes strong and we hold up.

Alternatively, if we think everyone will check to the guy who is coming in his pants, a check raise will accomplish the same thing.

Well, it was funny who was in with me in this hand, other than the button, everyone else would fold unless they had top pair pretty much(pretty tight/passive limpers this time, mostly was either tight/bad or loose/passive who came into the pot).

I actually didn't want to checkraise here because I wasn't sure I had the best hand...let's just say this guy's AF was hovering somewhere around .3 if I had to guess. He bet out on made hands ONLY(two pair was the smallest monster he would bet), and would literally call down to the river with King high(no draw) on paired boards looking to hit.

So, I figured if everyone folded, I would lose the minimum to this guy, and if he actually raised me, I might not even pay him off.

I bet, everyone looked at me like I had a monster hand and folded and the button called - as per his programming. The turn hit and 8, I bet, he called, river was a 7, I bet, he called. He showed down K4 for the higher two pair. I really like how everything turned out, although I think the conditions had to be perfect for this to happen and for me to lose the minimum.

Good news was he called down on a couple more hands of mine and I won those bets back plus some. Giving this type of player any more money than I should seems almost like a crime.

Thanks for the responses.
