4-8 live hand

Postby growlers » Tue Feb 13, 2007 6:46 pm

$4-8 1/2 kill game. 10 handed.

I have [9c] [2c] in the BB. There are SEVEN callers and I check my option

Flop (8 players, $32) [ [8c] [5s] [2h]

SB checks, I check, MP1 checks, MP2 bets, two people drop (everyone else calls) and I call.

Turn (6 players, $56) [Ac]

I check, MP1 checks, MP2 bets 8, eveyone else folds except button,, I call.

River: (3 players, $80) [Kc]

I bet $8, MP2 calls, button flods.

two specific questions, yeah I realize this hand isn't that exciting, but I am trying to work on my maximization of river bets.
1) I have a tendency to take a card off alot on the flop with just a pair in a huge multiway pot like this - but really with such a crappy kicker one wonders if another 2 really helps me here, as with 8 players there is a decent chance someone has A2 or somthing. Same thing with the 8 - ?89, etc may skewer me. So while I have odds with 5 outs to peel a card one wonders if it is really worth it since there is a chance that they are tainted (not to mention someone could have a set)

2) Alot of times I would checkraise the river but since the MP2 bet flop into a million players you kinda put her on top pair and then bet turn when the A hit and got two callers - I was afraid that she might chicken out and not bet the river unless she specifically had A8 so I decided to value bet instead.
So checkraise the river or bet out? She didn't show but looked pretty disgusted with my runner runner 92 flush

edit: I didn't mention reads. MP2 was a decent player, not overly aggressive. Button was a calling station.

FIRST MISTAKE: Checking your option is a horrible mistake here, youve gotta flushdraw inna huge pot pumpit for value. Sooted connectors in that spot are tite.

As for your kicker thing, i really wouldnt worry about it i mean a better 2 is pretty unlikely... 2s are pretty bad cards and theres really not many hands anyone plays with that have a 2 innit. A2s yeah, otherwse prolly like 23s/24s (which you have beat).. the third 2 is a monster in this one, methinks... the 9, well, yeah it could make a better 2p with 98 i guess, but again unlikely....67 would make a straight too, but meh.. All this crap is pretty distant possibility imho...the types of spots where i dont peel are like when i have somethin like J9 onna JQK board, or like 78 onn 8JQ, J9 onna AK9 board, or even like JT onn KJ8 board if theres enough people in the pot... Situations like this where theres an FD on the flop also make me much less inclined to peel...But TBH, if you cant peel here, i mean, when can you? The idea behind not peeling is if it seems likely that you can hit and still lose- this happens when your out makes someone else a better hand and/or you were dominated in the first place (better 2 for ex or of course, set). Also factored into this consideration would be the liklihood that even if you get there, someone else(s) has(have) lots of outs against you (i.e. suck/resuck is possible, like if someone had KK or somethin, else theres a big draw on the board that could get there)

Here, it would seem to me that none of these are very likely to apply- an OP is very unlikely, theres no FD on the flop, theres ONE OE, and its pretty unlikely someone else has a better 2 or that a 9 would 2pair someone -- i say not to peel here is a mistake..

PS i was DEF kidding about the PF thing just so ya know

PSS Rivers close. Id probly just bet it because live players tend to be less aggressive.... Itll be too bad if MP2 has aces up and you miss the river CR, but theres also a chance MP2 is scared of the ace, and will check behind...flush card came too...Aces up will be here though, and i sorta think aces up is a goot possibility-- its real close but i would probly bet...you may get lucky and find two callers and make the same amount of money anyway...and if MP2 doesnt have aces up or better, hes probly not gonna call the river CR (like if he has AT i doubt hes calling that)....i prolly just bet here....its reeaalll close though..
