Marginal Hand - Monster Pot

Postby MTPaid » Tue Mar 27, 2007 8:39 pm

I would like to give you some reads, but with half the table in the pot, what good would they do. So I'll just include stats....

1/2 FR [6c][5c] CO
UTG (22/15/23 55 hands) raises
UTG+1 (28/4/38 68 hands) calls
MP1 (53/18/41 55 hands) calls
I call
Button (17/8/10 60 hands) calls
SB (33/11/32 55 hands) calls.
BB (33/12/21 52 hands) calls

[2h][4d][5s] Pot 14 SB
SB bets, BB calls, UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 folds.....

I have no idea what my live outs are or how many of them I have, but I know I'm WAY behind. Do I have to cold call here getting 10-1?

You cold call pre-flop, you are 11:1 to hit your straight which is almost certainly good, 9:1 to hit trips or two pair which might be tainted and some runner runner outs to a bigger straight, and getting 10:1 immediate odds with a good chance that you will face a 3-bet. There are 10BB in the pot. I am not gonna call.

I raise. We can buy position from the button, represent big strength, and possibly take a free card on the turn if necessary. Yeah, I am raising here. Was this a live game? Plays like one, but I don't know anywhere that spreads 1/2.

MK, are you folding to a cap when it comes back around? If mizors aren't slowing down, then you are surely facing a cap on the flop. I don't think you are folding to a cap either. At least try to take control in the hand if it is gonna cost you the same amount no matter if you are wrong about the raise or not.

I really don't like calling here.

Definitely agree with ED. I raise. This is a classic spot where you know you're behind but raise anyway in a bit pot to try to drive people out and improve your own chances of winning by doing so. Plus you might slow people down on the turn which would be great. Sad to say sir, you're putting 2 or 3 big bets in this pot knowing you're behind, but if it increases your chance of winning by only a few percent doing so, you profit over just calling.

If sb (or bb) has a set (or a straight) he will probably cap anyway. And if he doesnt he could fold facing two more back to him. I vote for raise!

Hmmm, not sure about raising or calling. I sure as hell am not folding this. I'm getting pot odds to draw to my gutty, so calling cannot be bad and is far preferable to folding. I don't think raising will fold anyone out since the pot is so freaking huge, but guess I sorta agree with ED about trying to take control and get a free card, though not about the folding.

Interesting hand with so many different takes on how to play it.

So many interesting points. The flop did get capped, not because I raised though, but strangely enough it was checked to me on the turn when the board paired. I was slightly shocked to see that nobody had a set on that action flop.

1/2 FR [6c][5c] CO
UTG (22/15/23 55 hands) raises
UTG+1 (28/4/38 68 hands) calls
MP1 (53/18/41 55 hands) calls
I call
Button (17/8/10 60 hands) calls
SB (33/11/32 55 hands) calls.
BB (33/12/21 52 hands) calls

[2h][4d][5s] Pot 14 SB
SB bets, BB calls, UTG raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 folds, I call, Button calls, SB 3-bet, BB capped (WTF??), UTG folded, MP1 called, I called, Button called, SB called

[5h] Pot 18 BB - still 5 players remaining
SB checks, BB checks, MP1 checks, I bet, Button folds, SB calls, BB calls, MP1 calls

[5d] Pot 22 BB - :D :D :D :D
Checked to me, I bet, SB calls, BB folds, MP1 calls
SB had [3h][3d]
MP1 had [9c][9d]
Result: Win biggest pot ever at $1/2. +$39 after rake. 2nd biggest is $10 less.
Beautiful river although I was about 80% after the turn vs known cards. I'm more glad that river wasn't a re-suck than I am about catching quads.
