Marm is rusty....

Postby Marm » Thu May 10, 2007 9:32 pm

Whoops, meant to preview, not post.

marm is rusty and needs a little guidance here.

This a bad case of FPS on the Flop or no? I wanted to slow play, but I also wanted to protect against the flush, and I figured the LP player (TAA) would Cbet at least. And then i figured he would probably raise the bet, so I figured I could sweeten the pot and hope the flush missed.

I actually figured out exactly what he had by his river three bet, and I'm not sure if my call was crying or not.....

Ultimate Bet 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (9 handed) from (Format: Bet The Pot)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [Kd], [Td].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, MP3 calls, 1 fold, Button raises, 2 folds, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls, MP3 calls.

Flop: (9.40 SB) [9h], [Jc], [Qh] (4 players)
UTG+1 bets, Hero calls, MP3 calls, Button raises, UTG+1 calls, Hero 3-bets, MP3 calls, Button calls, UTG+1 calls.

Turn: (10.70 BB) [7c] (4 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, MP3 calls, Button calls, UTG+1 calls.

River: (14.70 BB) [Kc] (4 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, MP3 raises, Button 3-bets, UTG+1 folds, Hero calls, MP3 calls.

Final Pot: 23.70 BB

Results in white below:
BB doesn't show.
Hero has Kd Td (straight, king high).
MP3 has Ad Th (straight, ace high).
Button has Ac Qc (flush, ace high).
Outcome: Button wins 23.70 BB.

Would it still be a fold he you were 80% Sure you would see at least three more limpers?

Well, if this is any typical online limit table right now, I really think limping here is a big mistake preflop. These tables are just so tight nowadays you will usually find yourself in a raised pot OOP against an aggressive player with what really is a marginal hand.
On the button after three limpers I call all day. MP after one limper is a leak.

I think you played the rest of the hand fine. I call the river since it is two easy for button to be three betting with KK or KQ. The heart flush didn't get there and it is a big pot. If you had some specific read tha button wouldn't three bet without the nuts then I think you can fold, but describing him as "aggressive" implies that is not your read.

(Note: very long hiatus, still not really even playing)

I really don't have a problem with the limp Marm. If you are confident you will get other players, it's a good move. I play the flop and turn the exact same way, and I don't think there's really any question about that. For the river...well, I think you unfortunately have to check/fold here. You have to figure that the action will pcik up on this street, and that you have the lesser of the hands.

The only hands we fear are a backdoor flush and A10 which hit a gutshot on the river. Why would we want to potentially give up bets on the river since many other hands pay us off and they are unlikely holdings?
This river screams value bet - once you get raised then you have a decision to make, but that is based on the players you are playing and not so much on your hand. I would check/call if the heart flush hit, but you can't fear the mosters in the closet and that are what a backdoor flush and a rivered gutshot are.

edit: and note that when I say rivered gutshot I realize that villian had an openended with his 10 - which we split with - so what I mean by gutshot is that he needed a K to have you beat on the river.
