for a player playing better than his opponents 6 max is prolly a lot more profitable. however as the gap narrows (and somewhat before) the variance shoots through the roof. while its sweet when you have top pair and someone calls down with 3rd button it sucks when you have to call down (which you do on occasion in agg games) and your wrong and this and the constant ramming and jamming make for some brutal swings.
this isnt to discourage 6 max just to paint a picture of the game if your new to it.
i personally play more 6 max than full but when im running bad or my roll is overextended i find full is much easier on my stomach as im in a lot less marginal situations and have considerably less dramatic swings. i think everyone should be able to play both (as well as different kinds of poker) to be well rounded and not miss opportunities but thats just me. these days it certainly possible to specialiize (but boring and maybe not as profitable long run)
