Party Poker Bad Beat Jackpot ? for a math guy

Postby checker-pete » Sat Apr 16, 2005 1:36 pm

I have a question for you math wizaards out there, but first I would like to tell the sharks to head for these tables. I have been playing at them whenever I see the jackpot get over 150 G's and I can tell you my win rate is astonishing.
For those of you unfamiliar with Party's jackpot, you need to get 4 of a kind 8's or better beat, and you must use both of your hole cards. They rake .50 extra from every pot to make the jackpot. The "unlucky" player who gets beat gets around 50% of the jackpot. The winner gets like 15% and the table splits up around 5 or 10% and the rest starts the next jackpot.
Obviously any pr. of 8's or higher should be played but my question is, since this jackpot is so high, does it make sense to play small suited connectors out of position. Should you draw to an inside str8 flush since you are getting implied odds of 20,000 to 1 or more. Or should you just play your normal strategy and cut up the fish who are going for this jackpot with any 2 cards? Is the correct strategy somewhere in the middle?
As I said I have been doing much better at these tables than at even the normal tables( even with the bigger rake), but I don't want to make a mistake and throw away a potential windfall.
I would like to have a clever signature but they were all taken already.

I would just play your normal game. Even if you had a positive expectation playing small suited connectors in EP due to the jackpot, the "long term" for any jackpot EV is probably too long to be worth it.
