Playing medium PP from UTG (6-max)

Postby stickdude » Thu Dec 21, 2006 5:26 pm

Most 6-max starting hand charts I've seen advocate open raising with 77+ when you're UTG, and that's generally what I do. However, while perusing my PT database this afternoon (because I'm in no mood to get actual work done), I noticed that I'm losing money with 77-TT.

77 - 14 times, (0.43 BB/hand) WtSD: 35.71% W$SD: 40.00%
88 - 18 times, (1.68 BB/hand) WtSD: 38.89% W$SD: 14.29%
99 - 18 times, (0.42 BB/hand) WtSD: 55.56% W$SD: 50.00%
TT - 19 times, (0.82 BB/hand) WtSD: 43.75% W$SD: 28.57%

How do you guys handle these? Are my sample sizes just too small to worry about it yet (this is over 60K hands total)? What are some other things I could look at in addition to BB/hand?

Yes your sample sizes are too small to worry about it. I dno what that 60k thing means but from the amt of times youve gotten those id say your prolly lookin at having played like 3500 hands which is too small of a sample to mean much. You might goto SD too much with thes hands too- like if i flop 2 overs with a middle PP and i get action, ill almost always let it go unless the guys a real mizor. I dno how you play or anything, but at any rate i think your samples pretty small....and if your sample size really is 60k hands and you only got those cards that number of times, well then you sir, are a mathematical anomaly...

Well you just inspired me to look at mine...I don't have a ton of hands myself about 34K, but apparently I'm getting a lot more than you UTG.

77- 21 times (0.12 BB/Hand) WTSD 20% W$SD 50%

88- 27 times .10 BB/Hand WTSD 50% W$SD 46.15%

99- 20 times 0.18 BB/Hand WTSD 36.84% W$SD 42.86 (Although I know this number just took a good hit because I got killed recently when I was oversetted against a guy with JJ. We both hit the flop.)

TT- 23 times 2.01 BB/Hand WTSD 52.17% W$SD 83.33%

That is a good point MK makes about the table, I also noticed I don't have 100% raises on them. Which I probably did limp at times on those on tables where raising really isn't folding many players anyway.

They can be a bitch to play post flop on tables like that, usually I'll raise it and make a CB the majority of the time but again it depends on if I got a few cold callers. If I raise something like 9's or 8's and get 4 of us to the flop I'll sometimes check it if I miss and the flop brings an A and/or another commonly played broadway card. Betting there is rarely getting people to fold and it probably hit someone.
