Should I check/fold everytime the flush card shows up?

Postby MTPaid » Mon Apr 16, 2007 5:45 pm

Since I've moved up to 2/4, finding looser tables than at 1/2 is not the problem. There have been plenty. Losing has been the problem. I'm running at -6.53 BB/100 through a little under 1K hands so far including -17.60 BB/100 through 130 hands today. I've won on only 4 of 15 tables played so far.

I think my biggest leak has been that in heads up pots I don't auto fold whenever the flush card hits. What would you have done on the following hands today.......

Hand 1: Opponent is 69/17/65 after 35 hands. Will call down with anything.
[9c][6c] BB
Opponent limps in OTB, SB folds, I check
[8s][5d][7s] Pot 2.5 SB
YAY! I flopped the nuts
I bet, Button calls
[4d] Pot 2.25 BB
YAY! I still have the nuts
I bet, Button calls
[9d] Pot 4.25 BB
YAY! Mother-eff me! I still have the straight, but not nearly the nuts anymore. What do I do now?

Hand 2: This hand happened right after the last at a different table.
BB is 24/2/46 over 123 hands - also LOVES to see showdowns
I raise [Ac][Ad] UTG+1, only BB calls
[2d][3h][6h] Pot 4.5 SB
BB checks, I bet, he calls
[2h] Pot 3.25 BB
BB checks, I bet, he calls
[Js] Pot 5.25 BB
BB checks, worth a value bet?

Hand 3: Not a flush hand, but an overpair in EP vs some overly aggressive players.
[Td][Ts] UTG - I'm running at 11/4 on this table. Pretty card dead
I raise, MP1 calls, CO (21/13/35 278 hands - psychotically aggressive - AF is 6+) 3-bets, Button who has been on CO's case lately knowing that he raises and 3-bets weak now 4-bets (Button - 22/9/33), BB (VP$IP over 50%) calls, I call, MP1 calls, CO calls
[9c][5h][2h] Pot 20.5 SB
Checked to CO (psycho agg) who bets, Button raises, BB calls.
There's $51 in the pot and I need to call $4 to fish? Is this still an easy fold of an overpair in such a juicy pot?

Hand 4: This was my one tilt hand of the night
[Ac][Qc] in CO
BB seems pretty solid. Button is mildly retarded.
UTG+2 limps, I raise, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls, UTG+2 calls
[5h][Js][6h] Pot 10 SB
SB checks, BB bets, UTG+2 folds, I reluctantly take one off. I probably shoulda folded here, but like I said, I'm starting to tilt. Button calls as expected, SB calls
[Ad] Pot 6.5 BB
SB checks, BB bets, my turn, Button only has $7 left.
Does the fact that BB bet into me and then showed NO fear of the Ace scream AJ at anyone? Call down, raise to find out, or fold?

In Hand 4 he is in the BB calling a CO raise. That's a little different than a cold-call. My thinking was the same as yours on Hand 3.

I've kept you all in suspense long enough.

Hand 1: Opponent is 69/17/65 after 35 hands. Will call down with anything.
[9c][6c] BB
Opponent limps in OTB, SB folds, I check
[8s][5d][7s] Pot 2.5 SB
YAY! I flopped the nuts
I bet, Button calls
[4d] Pot 2.25 BB
YAY! I still have the nuts
I bet, Button calls
[9d] Pot 4.25 BB
YAY! Mother-eff me! I still have the straight, but not nearly the nuts anymore. What do I do now?

I bet. Button raises, I call. Button had the 6 for the straight along with a King. Both diamonds.

Hand 2: This hand happened right after the last at a different table.
BB is 24/2/46 over 123 hands - also LOVES to see showdowns
I raise [Ac][Ad] UTG+1, only BB calls
[2d][3h][6h] Pot 4.5 SB
BB checks, I bet, he calls
[2h] Pot 3.25 BB
BB checks, I bet, he calls
[Js] Pot 5.25 BB
BB checks, worth a value bet?

I bet, BB check-raises w/ [Kh][4h]

I folded becaue I figured that CO could easily 3-bet. Instead, he just called
[3c] Pot 13.25 BB
Checked to Button who bets, BB and CO call
[4d] Pot 16.25 BB
Checked around and Button wins with runner-runner straight thought he had a lot of outs with [Ah][Kh], CO had [Qh][Qc] and BB had [8h][8c].

I raised the turn thinking that I could fold if BB 3-bet, Button called with his last $7, SB folded, BB did 3-bet and I was wrong, I couldn't fold because now I was getting 13.75 to 1 odds which just about made it ok to draw to 3 outs even if I was behind.
[7h] Pot 14.75 BB
BB bets, I called
BB had [Ad][Jd] and took $17 sidepot
Button took the main pot with [Th][3h]
