Ugh. I dont blame you for calling down on a board that godawful. Honestly, i tend to muck this hand in that spot...Although showing it down is tempting, ill give you- but even on that board, id say chances are your beat, unless you gotta read on the guy.

One thing i can say is that If i am calling the river, i am popping the turn for a free showdown, close to 100% of the time. You pay the same for the showdown-and if you improve youve made an extra bet, and of course, you give him a chance to muck his hand on the spot, which is what youd really like to see. In the unlikely event that he 3 bets you, then you muckit, and still only cost 2 bets. It he stop n gos you again on the river, then thats just a plain biatch.

T-Dub-

Well, since i wouldnt know poker calculations from my own west butt-cheek, ill defer to your number crunching. You know, i couldnt even give you the odds of top pair with a nut flush draw and a gutshot to the high end against an open ended straight flush draw to the low end with a middle pair off the top of my head? Okay, fine, yeah i could.
Okay fine, ya got me. I cant even tell you the odds of pairing one of your hold cards on the flop (i think its like, between 1/3 and 1/4 right?)

Anyways, the reason i like the turn raise is simply that it gives you a bit of fold equity. He could conceivably fold the winning hand for 2 bets, putting you on either an overpair, or at the very least, AT (you did raise PF after all, right)

Ill give you there arent exactly a whole shitload of foldable second bests he's likely to have (also, not a whole lot of bettable decent hands either), but there are still a decent bit, depending on how loose/bad he is. If he's a bit fishy, he could easily have A3s, 44, 55, 66, 77(not as fishy), 89c(which he may not fold), or even A2d. Depending on how stubborn he is, he might even fold A8 there to the turn raise.

On the other hand, if he's mizorly enough that he's capable of threebetting a spade draw or a straight draw on an expensive street, then your right, your best off just callin. But mizors that pull crap like that are rare indeed in the 3-6 full ring games-- Its usually the short handers - the long suffering anti-lucksacks like myself that have to deal with crap like that.

Oh yeah i almost forgot. Did you win that one or what?

I think a good compromise would be this: if my opponent is capable of folding a pair, raising is better; if not, calling is better. Of course, there's always the simple agrument that I could've just folded, what with having nothing more than ace-high. And that one, I won't even try to refute. :)
