Thought anyone?

This hand came up yesterday. Before I post it I want you to know my mindset a little so you are not too harsh. I had just made a couple of mistakes over playing and I was trying to slow down, think things through rather than just act. This is why when I reviewed the river situation I was totally confused but didn't see how I could win.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with [Qh], [Qd].
1 fold, Hero raises, 2 folds, MP2 calls, 4 folds, BB 3-bets, Hero calls, MP2 calls.

Flop: (9.50 SB) [9s], [6c], [3c] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, MP2 bets, BB calls, Hero raises, MP2 calls, BB calls.

Turn: (7.75 BB) [9h] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, MP2 calls, BB calls.

River: (10.75 BB) [8s] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, MP2 bets, BB raises, Hero folds, MP2 calls.

Final Pot: 14.75 BB

BB has Ah Kc (one pair, nines).
MP2 has 5c 6s (two pair, nines and sixes).
Outcome: MP2 wins 14.75 BB.

I checked on the river as I was sure MP2 had the 9. He was pretty loose and stupid, I expected him to fold the flop given the action unless he connected, and that second 9 was a nightmare. The BB I figured might be on a higher PP after his PF reraise since he as an okay player but not overly aggressive. I wanted to make sure I could show down for one bet. Sure enough MP2 bets but then the reraise by the BB meant I could not see a scenario where I was ahead.

I think I did screw this up but I am interested in what others think.

Thoughts?

I think u played it perfectly. I too would have folded at the river. Figuring at least one of them for trips.
I do not think, therefore I am not.

I don't really like the way you played the hand Rich. First off the BB 3 bets then checks the flop  This looks ALOT like AK to me. Why did you check the flop? You have a loose and stupid player after you who could be in with anything why let him have a chance to pick up something especially with a flush draw out there. BET that flop. You CR is good on flop but it shouldn't have come to that.

You bet when the second 9 comes and don't get raised anywhere why would you check the river when a very good card drops? You gave yourself a chance to get outplayed here which should not have happened. Ask yourself how could the BB come awake now with a hand that he wouldn't three bet on the flop or raise the turn. He knows you raised preflop so likely don't have a 9 so if he has a big overpair he would likely pop you on turn after the other guy just calls your turn bet. Bet the river and if you get raised and the other guy calls two cold then you can fold. Maniac players are not likely going to just call your turn bet if they have three 9's. Hope that helps some.

Thanks for advice.

I really did think I spannered this hand by some muddled thinking. I was really worried MP2 had the 9 when the river came and that he was just too stupid to raise the turn, or wanted to get the BB into the pot too. My river play was going to be let MP2 bet, then call for one as I really did think the BB had squat. When he raised that river I guess I put him back on AA or KK since MP2 surely had connected and was 100% going to call his raise.

I am not sure why I checked the flop. I think I made a mistake here, agreed. I had made some mistakes earlier in this session betting too much and I think this is why I was muddle headed, and hence why I wanted to post this hand.

Thanks again.
