Was I not aggressive enough?

Postby briachek » Sun Feb 27, 2005 11:21 pm

Ok, I know I screwed this up, but I'm just curious how many ways I did. I think I should have 3 bet the flop, then bet out the turn and river. However, with so many people in the pot, the turn A killed me because with 6 people in there, I was sure I was done without the straight so that is why I folded the river which I knew was a mistake as soon as I clicked.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (8 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Jc], [Jh]. UTG+1 posts a blind of $1.5.
1 fold, UTG+1 (poster) checks, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO calls, 1 fold, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (6.50 SB) [8s], [Th], [9s] (6 players)
Hero bets, BB calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 raises, CO calls, Hero calls, BB calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls.

Turn: (9.25 BB) [Ac] (6 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, CO checks.

River: (9.25 BB) [2h] (6 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG+1 bets, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, CO folds, Hero folds, BB calls.

Final Pot: 12.25 BB

Results in white below:
BB has 6d 9h (one pair, nines).
UTG+1 has Td 7d (one pair, tens).
MP2 has Ts 5s (one pair, tens).
Outcome: UTG+1 wins 6.12 BB. MP2 wins 6.12 BB.

Let me have it.

Judging by the hands they played, this seems like pretty soft table, and fish tend to play any ace - so backing off on the turns isn't unreasonble.

I would have called the river though - given the size of the pot, you only need to get it right about 1 out of 10 times to make the call a profitable play.

Reraise the flop. Your overpair may be the best hand, and you want to push out any overcards. You can make it two bets to 3 of the players, and find out how serious MP2 is about his hand. If you get reraised, you have outs to the straight.

Since the turn checked around, I'd overcall the river for 1 bet.
