Do you make the call?

Postby odogg » Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:43 am

A friend and I typically watch each other play and critique each others play. I was playing 5/10 last night and am sitting in middle to late position with JJ. Loose table but some decent players.

UTG raises, UTG + 1 makes it 3 bets to you.

Settle a dispute. What do you do?

I cap it and proceed very cautiously. I was in a similar situation last night. I was in LMP with JJ with a raise in front of me. I 3-bet and it ends up getting capped with 4 of us seeing the flop. Flop comes all rags. I can't remember exactly how it played out, but there were bets and raises on the flop and 2 of the 4 folded. The turn I was headsup and a Qs came. Check to me, I bet and get called. River is the As which also puts 3 spades on the board. I'm bet into. I think for awhile wondering how I can possible call with only a pair of jacks when the board is suited and as an A and Q. The pot had 11 or 12 BBs in it, so I decided to call to see how badly I was beaten. I was floored when my opponent turned over pocket 6s and the pot slid to me. This was at a 5/10 6-max game. When players are this bad, you have to play aggressive and not give up on big pots. Cap it.

10 players? It depends on the raising standards of UTG and UTG+1. If they are poor LAG players, definately cap and try to isolate them in position. However, if they are tight players, muck it.
When you have the odds, you become smart money.

if you respect at least one of those players (particularly the 3 better) then I would muck it. However, if the UTG is a LAG and UTG+1 is a good player, there is a decent chance I would cap because he might be trying to isolate with the LAG. However, I am leaning towards folding unless I really think the 3 bettor is isolating with a lesser hand than JJ.
