$1000NL QQ flops top set

Postby High Wired » Sat Feb 09, 2008 6:49 pm

I have about 100 hands with the SB, and he is the quintessence of a fish...his stats were 60/9/1.05/39 and he had been running quite well. When I first started at the table I saw him show down retarded hands like J4s out of position, limping all over the place preflop, etc. My image is super TAG because I was playing a bit out of my comfort zone so I was only playing premium hands, and I believe I was at 14/12/8/19 and was up a couple hundred at the time.

$5/$10 No Limit Holdem
9 players
Converted at

Stacks:
UTG ($610.00)
Hero ($1279.00)
MP1 ($966.50)
MP2 ($415.00)
MP3 ($970.00)
CO ($880.50)
BTN ($985.00)
SB ($2049.95)
BB ($2073.50)

Pre-flop: ($15, 9 players) Hero is UTG+1 [Qc][Qd]
1 fold, Hero raises to $40, 5 folds, SB calls $35, 1 fold

Flop: [9h][Tc][Qh] ($90, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $90, SB raises to $360, Hero....?

I'd seen him fire multiple bullets with draws so I wasn't sure whether to just call the check raise or push.

fold.
Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

We're not being serious.

This is a must-push situation.

If you're unsure of the correct play in this spot, or the amount of money is affecting your decision making abilities, you probably shouldn't be playing 5/10 NL.

It's good advice. it was 5x higher than my normal limits and 1/6 my BR and I took a shot. I pushed of course and didn't improve against his flopped nut str8. S'all good, just wanted to post a big boy hand and make sure I played it right

When I play a patient and relaxed game I win - that simple.

Any heart, Ace, King, Jack or 8 is bad for your hand. Not only because it will complete a bunch of draws meaning you could be losing, but it also makes the board look very dangerous making it less likely he will pay you off with a worse hand. Say he has T9 for bottom two-pair, and a the [Jh] falls. There's now a one card straight on the board as well as a possible flush, and if you were holding QJ, you just out drew him. He'll probably happy get his stack in on the flop with T9, but after the [Jh] falls he's much more likely to shut down.

On the flop you're only behind J8 and KJ, and crushing everything else (except a nice combodraw like [Ah][Jh] of course. He'll stick it in with QT, Q9, T9 and of course lower sets. The situation can only get worse on the turn (unless the board pairs) so do it now. Also, this will balance your play for when you push with a draw like [Ah][Th] or JJ here.

And you may want to be a bit more cautious about your shot taking... playing scared money with a big chunk of your BR in play is not +EV. And you ARE playing scared money of you even have to consider doing anything other than pushing here.
