Maybe I should have stated that my instincts told me he had the straight. The speed/confidence/size of his river bet had me pretty convinced.
I just called, but felt afterwards that this was a mistake. Given his flop check call, there's like a < 1% chance I am beat by Q8/KQ. However, my play is completely realistic with KQ. Maybe I am crazy, but I think if I shove I can move him off a chop a sort of insignificant percentage of the time (but certainly not more than 30% or so).
Afterwards I discussed the hand with some people and most of them seem more convinced that if I raise it's to squeeze value out of two pair and such.
Either way, in this spot even though I feel like I'm chopping almost always, since I figure to be beat virtually never, I think I ought to raise to given him a chance to make one of the two possible mistakes (fold a chop or call with < straight).
He had 86s.
