Anyone (slow)play this differently?

Postby DaHitDogg » Mon Apr 18, 2005 6:29 pm

I think my play is pretty standard, but I wanted to double check. Let me know if you would play this any differently. Opponent is a calling station 71/3 after 100+ hands. He called down my AK two pair with A4 previously.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (6 max, 6 handed)

SB ($75.5)
Hero ($227.01)
UTG ($41.3)
MP ($146.66)
CO ($185.32)
Button ($267.3)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [As], [Ks]. SB posts a blind of $0.5.
2 folds, CO raises to $2, 1 fold, SB (poster) calls $1.50, Hero raises to $6, CO raises to $12, SB folds, Hero calls $5.

Flop: ($26) [Ah], [Ad], [7d] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $20, Hero calls $20.

Turn: ($66) [4s] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks.

River: ($66) [9d] (2 players)
Hero bets $30, CO raises to $60, Hero calls $30.

Final Pot: $186

I was absolutely certain that my opponent did not have an ace and that he would go away at the first sign of aggression from me. I was fairly certain the he had a pocket pair so I was not worried about the flush. I think I played this correctly. Any thoughts?

Me personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with check-calling the turn and river. I think your beat here.

Although he could be the kind of player that grossly overplays AQ or AJ and didn't figure you for AK when you just called preflop.
Something like 99 or A9 would not be out of the question. I would make the desperate crying call on the river though since you are getting 5-1 to call it.

I would bet the flop since he's a calling station. I'd also bet the turn and river since he's a calling station :) I hardly ever slow play.

That raise on the river is scary. He might hold 99 or some other kind of full house. Calling station usually don't raise unless they have a true monster.
