Bad Beat, or Did I miss this one badly?

Postby aeroace » Sat Apr 09, 2005 11:36 pm

Everyone got up and left me heads up with this guy. Just played a few hands, so not much to read in PT or betting patterns. It'shard to lay down a full house on the river. What do you read him to have???

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (2 handed)

Button =(Villain)/ ($80.35)
Hero ($230.80)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [7h], [As].
Button =(Villain)/ raises to $4, Hero calls $2.

Flop: ($8) [2d], [7c], [2s] (2 players)
Hero checks, Villain checks.

Turn: ($8) [3c] (2 players)
Hero bets $8, Villain calls $8.

River: ($24) [7d] (2 players)
Hero bets $24, Villain raises to $48, Hero raises to $96, Villain calls $20.35 (All-In).

Final Pot: $260.35

The only thing he could've possibly beaten you w/ were pocket 2s or a push w/ another 7... I'm assuming that's what he had cause you titled your post "bad beat"... If that's the case, I would've lost all my money right along w/ ya... NO WAY IN HELL I lay down the nut boat...

He could have 73 too to beat you. I don't lay that down, especially heads up.

you never know heads up as you can pretty much play any hand. I just mentioned it because it could be true.

Maybe probable because he said it was a bad beat... and if that's the case, it DEFINITELY was a bad beat....

I may be in the minority here (or maybe I am just not quite as nice as the others)

But...I would say that you missed this one. The table folded to the button and its quite obvious (after the fact) that he was trying to steal the blinds. When he raises you on the river why are you reraising him back? Obviously he has something. He is not trying to bluff you at this point (and if he is, let him) I call here rather than push. What are you beating? The ace is of no value now....

I think the word 'bad beat' is often used out of context. A bad beat IMHO is when you are large favorite when the money goes in and you end up losing. This does not qualify as a bad beat although I would classify it as bad luck ($60) combined with a bad decision ($20).

I think your best move on the river is a check/call rather than betting into him. Either you induce a bluff, split a smaller pot or do not lose nearly as much.

Im all in every time here especially heads up. If he has 73 or 22 then so be it. Many more times he'll have only 1 (2) in his hand or 1 (7) in his hand. Or even a pair higher than 7's.

Yeah i'm in agreement with ice here. All-in and lots of times he'll show you something a lot worse then you wouild think.

Turned out he had pocket 22, so his QUAD 2's beat my boat. Oh well, I'll chalk this one up to experience. Thought he might have had pocket 3's since he bet modestly pre-flop.

Pretty much the nut boat beaten by quads... I guess that qualifies as a bad beat... But, I still think ya gotta push, cause as Ice and Kenny said, more times than not, at worst you're gonna split the pot...
