bad read - fell apart

Postby AlamdeaMike » Wed Jul 13, 2005 2:46 pm

I fell apart on this hand and missed a great opportunity to win a big pot. I am new at NL and that is why I misplayed this hand so badly.

Like a deer in the headlights I just froze. I knew we had a split pot and I could not put in the $124. My mind went numb for 15 seconds when that 6 hit.

I put him on a set the way he was betting.

My correct play was to represent 68 and shove all in or a least call. I did not think that he had 68. I needed to forget about the $124 and think. No way did he have an 8 in his hand. Even 88 is unlikely.

I mucked and he showed a set of 5's. The turn bet was too low at that.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (8 handed)

MP2 ($458.50)
CO ($528.50)
Button ($798.45)
Hero ($654.80)
BB ($468.30)
UTG ($353.50)
UTG+1 ($317.15)
MP1 ($430.45)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Qs], [6h].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $4, MP1 calls $4, 1 fold, CO calls $4, 1 fold, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($20) [5s], [4c], [7d] (5 players)
Hero bets $12, BB folds, UTG+1 calls $12, MP1 folds, CO raises to $36, Hero calls $24, UTG+1 folds.

Turn: ($104) [3d] (2 players)
Hero bets $52, CO calls $52.

River: ($208) [6s] (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $124, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $332

Results in white below:
CO doesn't show.
Outcome: CO wins $332.

fold pre-flop

That is a lot of cash to lose on Q 6, but that is just me

You are dead right there. The clasic limp for $2 in the SB hit a nice part of the flop and then get carried away.

I will seldom even put in $2 on hands like this. I was playing so tight an so nice then blam.

VP$IP less than 23%.

I took a break since my concentration had slipped.

I won $485 so I am happy.

Thanks

I like the betting on the flop if you had 1 or two opponents. With 3 or 4...it's just not good enough. The draw is also obvious...

I agree that this is a fold preflop. I also think you should fold to the raise on the flop. The pot isn't very big..the draw is obvious...and most players are going to bet big on that turn; not leeting you see the river.

This time folding was your best weapon, both preflop, and to the flop reraise.
