Bad KK VERY WEAK decision...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Thu May 19, 2005 1:18 am

Sittiing at the Horseshoe in Costa Rica... it's an INCREDIBLY LAG game, with people throwing bluffs all over the damned place... I started w/ $200, have about $700 in front of me, and villian, who is a HORRIBLE player who plays ANYTHING, and lucked his way into a couple boats w/ K8 and A7 that got him most of his money, and he's got me covered...

I get [Kd] [Kh] in the BB... villian limps, two others limp... I raise to $25 (these people don't respect ANY raises, and if I would've raised to $12 (which is still think is high) they all would've called)... Villian calls... one other call...

Flop... [Jc] [10c] [2d] ... I bet out $50... villian calls... other guy folds...

Turn... [7s] ... I bet $100 ... villian raises me $150... I think for like an hour and then fold...

He smiles his disgusting little asshole smile and shows me QJ...

Under normal circumstances, I think it was a decent fold... Call the flop, raise the turn = trips, right??? While I was sitting there, I was trying to figure out what the hell he had that I beat... AA I lose... KK I push... QQ I win... JJ I lose... 1010 I lose... AK I win... It just seemed like a coinflip that I wasn't ready to lose all my chips over...

Everybody was talking crap that I should have pushed allin... and thinking back, it probably wasn't that bad of a play... I had seen this guy play such shit that I honestly couldn't put him on QQ or AJ or ever J8 any easier than J10 2pr or trips...

Any advice on my weak/tight play...?

I don't think if there's any way in hell I lay this hand down. I think knowing that he played garbage for a raise would've induced me to push.

I might have grabbed for all my chips and watched for his reaction. :D

I think your flop bet was a little too weak. Frankly, I have no objection to a bit of an overbet on an overpair--particularly against someone who's calling huge raises with QJ (which admittedly also means that JT may be out there). By the way, what are the blinds here?

Anyhow, I think if you fire out $80-$100 on the flop (pot is $75, right?), you're in a better position on the turn. The faster you can play these big pairs, the less trouble you get into, I think.

Against a player like that, objectively the best turn play imo is indeed all-in to a weak bluff like that. It's really a post-oak bluff relative to the pot. Also, don't know whether I'd really have the guts to do it with a deep stack like that.

But I also don't think you can just lay down KK like that the first time someone plays back at you.

Aisthesis... the only problem is that everyone had the table had to see me as someone who knew what the hell I was doing... I always talk too damned much while I'm playing (probably cause I drink too much and don't play enough hands), and I was telling people's hands to them before I made a good laydown... Also, I had like $700 in front of me, and these goobers were all pissing away their money like water... My point wasn't to brag there... it was to say that, if I bet, they knew I had an overpair and not K8 or some crap like that... I think if I would've overbet the flop, they all would've folded, which seeing the result probably wouldn't have been that bad of a thing...

Its amazing how many bad calls I made in a 4 day span, and still managed to leave Costa Rica up a couple hundred... Can't wait till I buckle down and head back there w/ my head on straight (probably sitting all day in a bar full of hookers allday couldn't have helped...)...
