Betting draws...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:07 am

Learned from Kenny about betting my draws... And, before anyone goes biting my head off for checking the turn w/ a 10high flush, I KNEW he was gonna bet, and wanted to check-raise him... The paired K kinda scared me, causing the wimpy river bet...

Seeing his hand, I'm suprised he didn't raise my river bet...

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (8 handed)

Hero ($125.95)
UTG ($78.25)
UTG+1 ($100.80)
MP1 ($50.75)
MP2 ($41.25)
CO ($136.70)
Button ($97.85)
SB ($129.45)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [2h], [Th].
UTG calls $1, 4 folds, Button calls $1, 1 fold, Hero checks.

Flop: ($3.50) [7h], [Kh], [2c] (3 players)
Hero bets $3, UTG folds, Button calls $3.

Turn: ($9.50) [Qh] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $4, Hero raises to $12, Button calls $8.

River: ($33.50) [Ks] (2 players)
Hero bets $15, Button calls $15.

Final Pot: $63.50

Results in white below:
Hero has 2h Th (flush, king high).
Button has 9h Kd (three of a kind, kings).
Outcome: Hero wins $63.50.

I don't remember kennyg's way of betting the draws. Do you bet pot size on both flop and turn, or what do you do if you miss the turn? Do you get raised off a lot of hands on the flop, because that's what I find? Maybe because I bet less then the pot a lot of times.

I'm curious if you think pot size bets are profitable with draws. I assume yes when you hit the draw and get paid off, but if the opponent is good he will fold most of those.

When in position, I assume you bet the draw if checked to you, and do you raise or just call when opponent bets first?

They fold so often to me, it's immensely profitable.

I will continue and bet the turn even if i miss it...i usually bet 3/4 the pot on the turn..say like $40 into a $60. It's very important to know your opponent though. I always will check to the calling stations.

In position...I raise probably 80% of the time. Certain factors you have to look out for.
1. opponent is a calling station?
2. Any big slowplaying guys that have called the intial bet?
3. Stack sizes.
4. How good is the draw

One more thing. I've found this method works good on 1/2NL..great on 2/4. I'm not sure it's even worth bothering on limits lower then that. maybe the 100s...but tha'ts as low as I would go. people don't fold enough till then.
