That play is fine for you normal game, but you won't be able to push that hard when you are trying your'e 2 buy-in challenge. Speaking of...

I think that your idea/challlenge is a pretty cool idea and I sincerely wish you the best. You have been well warned as to the risks of the small bankroll so I won't rehash those. I will warn you of one thing though. If you do accomplish your goal of moving up to NL1000 and winning a couple of buy-ins you will find it difficult to move back down to the level that is appropriate for your bankroll. It's like Jaws once he got a taste of human flesh sardines completely lost their appeal. You are going to be very tempted to continue pressing your luck at the higher levels. Just make sure you have a very specific exit strategy.

Good point HitDog, it might be a bit dangerous if this makes you go up the levels too fast. But if it's an experiment for fun and you know the risks I agree with it. If someone's starting out to build a bankroll using this method - bad idea.

Let us know how it goes, a history of what level you got to.

I don't ever seem to have this disease of not wanting to move back down and float between games. Sure the money is better up there, but the stress level is also higher. Even if you are used too thinking of 500 or 1k as some % of equity in a pot, it is stressful to deal with that kind of decision making with out doing it for a long time. It takes time to get used to any new stakes betting, especially in a NL game.

A fun idea and something I'd like to try if I weren't pressed to actually MAKE a lot of money. Very much like playing the step tournaments, but in ring games...which gives it a whole different set of challenges.

Not sure if it promotes "good poker" but I do kind of like the idea...maybe next August? :)

Andy

P.S. I would start with at least 20 buy ins at the $25 level! That way, if you get busted on your first two buy ins you have somewhere to go! Good luck!

This is my first post. I am doing fairly well on the Party Poker $25 NL tables. I usually play 3 tables and have won about $500 in my 6mnth online career. It's not a lot, but I'm happy. I've been looking for a way to try out the higher limits without risking too much and this sounds like fun.

I'd like to try this on the micros, but they don't offer it at Party. Any recommendations on a good site for this?

I'd like to thank everybody involved in this forum, I've learned a lot by reading your posts.

Try the Gaming Club, I haven't played there, but from what I hear it is a great site and I know they have micro limits. Besides there I would try Paradise, it has micros and its a fun site with great customer service.

To Hoppy,
I have that type of bankroll for the normal limit I play in, this challenge is just something on the side i'm doing.

After today I have 3 days off in a row from work, so I think i'm going to start then, or at the very earliest tonight after work has ended.

I'll try to post every few days with anything intereting along the way. With only playing one table at a time the hands will come slow and everything else probably will as well.

Good thing I've got bonus's to clear elsewhere to keep me interested haha.

I know this sounds like a cop-out, but at the moment i appear to be in this horrible breakeven/losing streak.

I started the challenge yesterday and was $5 away from going up to the 50NL level and ended up giving some of it back to a suckout, but still finished up for the day.

Today I start out and flop a set, bet at it and a guy goes all in so I call. He had 2 pair and turned the bigger boat.

So, after I clear the latest party bonus I'm going to just take about a week off to clear my head, at which point I will then give this a go.

This challenge was your idea, so play it anyway you like, but in reality this IS a major "cop out". I was under the impression that the real challenge was to throw conservative bankroll strategy caution into the wind and make a balls-to-the-wall run through every level of NL. If you are just going to quit each time you don't like the initial results at NL25 then this is really a different challenge. Something akin to hitting the reset button when you lose two lives at the first level of Super Mario Brothers.

Second point and I promise I'm not trying to be a jerk. If I took off a week to "clear my head" everytime I took a bad beat then I doubt I could play more than 52 times a year.

rdale

just out of curiosity, if as you proposed, you start with 4 or 5 buy-ins then how often would you move up?

once you reach 4-5 for the next level?

with the ability to lose a buy-in in one hand in NL (unlike limit which is what the original Gaming Club challenge is all about) maybe 4-5 would be a lot better of an idea.

who knows.
