Confused on the turn, NL100 6max

Postby Monkey » Fri Sep 14, 2007 8:12 am

Villain is 48/29 over 60 hands his aggression factor pf/flop/turn/riv is 1/1/3/7, which is unorthodox.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $1 BB (4 handed) from (Format: Bet The Pot)

Hero ($117.30)
BB ($102.90)
UTG ($96.90)
Button ($90.45)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [As], [Js].
1 fold, Button raises to $2, Hero raises to $7.5, 1 fold, Button calls $5.

Flop: ($15.50) [9c], [3s], [9s] (2 players)
Hero bets $11, Button raises to $22, Hero calls $11.

Turn: ($59.50) [Ad] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $59 and has $2.45 left

My initial reaction is people don't play trips like that.
With greater consideration, his flop min-r argues for trips, slow-played big pair or a big fat nothing. The turn A is a good card for trips as there's a good chance I have one and a bad card for a bluff for the same reason.
On the upside, I only need 33% equity to break even, so I think it's close

Shovey shove shove?

Since his flop aggression is so low, I tend to put him mostly on big hands here. 33 is definitely a possibility. But 4 handed ... wow, tough to let this go. And that huge turn bet does not look like a made hand, I agree. Especially if he has the made boat, he can't be scared of any draws, so he shouldn't be trying to push you out like that....

On the whole ... I guess I don't believe he has a 9 or 33. So I guess I shove for his last little bit. Ship a river A if I'm wrong. :D

T-Rod, why don't you believe "for a moment" that he has trips? The turn bet is too big for trips, but the flop minimum raise is perfect. I tend to agree with you but I'm much less certain.

With the preflop action considered, the flop raise looks more like a FD or an overpair(probably TT, JJ, QQ) than a monster hand. The turn just looks like a panic bet when the Ace hits. I'm calling this all day. Lucky him if he played AA, 99 or A9 this way, although I am worried about AK and AQ(min-raising the flop to try and get you to fold) than I am 9x or 33. I think there is a smallish chance he has a hand with a 3 in it.

I just can't fold to this guy based on stats and the weird way it was played.

BTW, TG1 said it right...push that flop.

Turn: ($59.50) [Ad] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $59, Hero calls $59.

I must have thought he was all-in, as I remember wondering why the cards hadn't flipped over. Anyway:

River: ($177.50) [Ac] (2 players) :D

Hero bets $2.45, Button folds. 73-1 just isn't enough.

Final Pot: $177.50

So I don't know what he had. He asked if I had the ace in chat a couple of times then left. I said I had a missed FD and thought I could bluff him, obviously.

Good point. You're never ever ever folding for your last 2 bucks, but the opponent might be that terrible -- so you need to shove this instead of calling. It's just 2 bucks but every bit counts.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.
