Death by slowplay

$5/$10 at Prima. DAMN this game appears to be juicy. I just started playing it on occassion the past couple days.

Villian in this hand is a slow player (and a short stack type player). When I sat down he had like $100. I doubled him up once when I limped with 88 and then he went all in in the BB for $75. I called and his AQ beat me.

Later, there were 4 limpers, then a raise to $30, he flat called in the SB with AA. Of course everyone called and he lucked out and won a huge pot against a bunch of people drawing. In another hand he called $30 again preflop with AA and won a smallish pot. He also slowplayed a set on a very draw heavy board but came out unscathed again.

He has $1050 now. I have him covered. UTG+1 has $700.

Its my last hand. I have to go do some yard work. I limp UTG with [7d][7c]. UTG+1 limps. SP (slow player) raises to $30. We both call.

Pot is $100. The flop comes [Qh][Jh][Qd]. It gets checked around.
Pot $100. The turn is the [7s]. I bet $50 and they both call.
Pot $250. The river is the [2c]. I bet $100. UTG+1 folds. SP raises to $300. I cant believe he has QJ so I reraise all in. He calls with AQ.

DONT SLOW PLAY. It will catch up with you eventually.

Nice to win a huge pot off the idiot. But I think one has to just call his raise? He has either JJ or AQ (maybe KQs). I can't believe he paid you off for another $700 w/ AQ though...maybe I should move up from the $25 games.

That's plenty for the all-in...

And, as to slowplaying, I couldn't agree more. For slowplaying, I think you almost need a situation where everyone looks weak and would need runner-runner or at most a 2-outer to have any chance of beating you (or else, they're themselves slowplaying made quads or such).

Honestly, even a flopped A-high flush is much better to bet than to slowplay, as many (and I've done it in the past myself) do. For one thing, if the board pairs later, you have to slow down. If no one has a card of the appropriate suit, you're not going to win anything anyway. You might pick up an all-in from a little flush, and you're VERY like to make a K of the appropriate suit think he has huge implied odds on calling. And if no one has any kind of a hand at all, why mess around until the river for the vague possibility of a weak bluff in the quantity of just a few big blinds? Just take it down and move on.

I really think my minimum for slowplaying is top set on a rainbow board with no straight draws. On a somewhat more coordinated board, overfull I'm willing to slowplay (for example, in your hand, QJ I think could slowplay nicely--anything less, I think is a mistake). But I'm betting the turn in both cases if it's checked around on the flop.
