Difference between nl ring games and sit n goes???

Postby TheMint » Tue Apr 26, 2005 12:26 pm

I am new to this site and really think its great. Got some questions. I mainly play SnG's and do pretty well. Usually a positive income each month. I have played nl ring games in the past and done ok. I was wondering if you could relate a ring game to an sng. I always start slow with a PT aggression rating of about .8. Then pick it up later when the blinds are larger. I dont know if this question makes any sense, but what stages of a SnG would you most be playing like. Are the two similar in any way. Do you normally start off the same way or do you immediately go to aggressive mode (later stage of SnG). I hope the question made sense.

Thanks

On a side not, and not to hijack the thread or anything, but I have found that I do really well when I play an SnG while having a ring game going. For some reason having the ring game allows me to relax through the beginning of the tourney, which is really key. And often I can make enough in the ring game to make the tourney a free-roll.

Last night I bombed in the ring game to the tune of 2 buy-ins. But I finished 2nd in the tourney, making the night essentially a loss. One of the buy-ins was a really bad beat... the other was some marginal play... but it was really nice to offset these losses through good tourney play.

I think that good ring play can make you a good tourney player... less the other way. In other words I have gotten better at tourney play as I have gotten better at ring play.
