Dropping Back Down

Postby BKAZ » Fri Jul 22, 2005 8:00 am

I've played poker for over a year and have made money for the last 9 months. I switched from limit to strictly NL about 2 months ago although before that I would play both off and on. I moved up to the $100 tables 3 weeks ago and in the last 2 weeks I have dropped 10 buy ins. I am at 9.7 PTBB per 100 at the $50 tables with over 10K hands and my bank roll is actually good for the $200 tables but I am losing confidence and I can tell it is affecting my game.

Here are 2 hands that drove me past the 10 buy in threshold.

Hand history converter is not working correctly so this is a mix between the PT hand history and bisons converter.

I am going back th the $50 tables to win back the $1000 I've lost the last 2 weeks and then decide if I want to try again.

Wish me luck gang.

Hand 1: That sucks. You were a 4:1 favorite so don't beat yourself up on your play. My only possible critique is to raise more pf. Table seems very loose and you need to probalby raise more to thin it.

Hand 2: I probably would not have called his reraise. I put him on a set or a low-medium flush. You're only going to beat the flush (if another heart falls) and you're a 2 outer vs. his set. When he doesn't respect your pressure, I give him credit.

I play at Empire and recently went back down to the 50s just like you. I lost about 5 buyins at the 100 tables (1/2 bad beats and 1/2 stupid play). Since going back down, I've been on a tear. I see a HUGE difference in the level of play. Seems like people at the 50 tables want to wait until the river to do most of their betting. Bascially, I bet the nuts all-in on the river when I have it. So far I've been called by top pair twice and once by ace high???

Good luck

You should have reraised more preflop on hand 2. A min raise is not going to chase anyone out of the pot, and you don't want 3 other players seeing a flop with you when you have KK

hand number 1 sucks, definetely. Nothing you could do there.

On hand number two, you might have called out of frustration becase that was a very bad call.

I had the most incredible Bad run I have heard of last month: I was consistently losing for about 4K hands. Losing a lot for 2.5K and another 1.5K of losing/breaking even. I wish there is something I could say to make you feel better. I know it will pass. Stepping down would be a great decision, something I couldnt do because I was playing at party´s NL$25 and there was no smaller stakes. I can tell you that I was playing correctly and I think the fact that I lose around 11 buyins in such a long streak confirms it. I ended losing 12 out of 14 all ins(when I started counting), where I was a huge favorite in also 12 out of the 14.

Just for you to have an Idea:
I was dealt kings in CO. (playing NL0.25 at absolute, i think) I have 89i fron t of me. raised to 1.5 and got 3 callers

Flop came with an A K 6 ainbow, it was checked to me and i bet 3/4 the pot, 2 folded and one min raise, I min reraised back, he calls. Turn 4 an completes the rainbow. he checked, I bet 3/4 the pot again and he raises, I went all in!

What the hell do I have to fear here? AA, dont think so given that he didnt reraise preflop. If he has it, so be it, I am not folding that set.

He thinks for 30 seconds and that told me he didnt have AA, which was the nuts.

River : A.

He showed A-4 for the full house and beat me. Another guiy at the table call him stupid moron because he had folded the AK in that kind of action, so the guy hit his 1 outer... in that hand I was 97.something favorite and got beat.

SHIT HAPPENS. and it happens more than us poker player would like to. Keep playing your top game and your BR will keep growing after a few days.

AlexMR

Stay playing and it should pass.
