KK easy fold... right?

Postby devilmollusk » Thu Jun 02, 2005 10:31 am

Please excuse the lack of actual hand history... but here goes...

$25 NL PokerRoom
I limp KK utg. 3 callers behind me. Board hits 10 high rainbow, no obvious straight draw. I bet the pot ($3). One caller. Turn is a blank. No read on this guy as he just sat down with a full buy-in. I bet $8, he calls. Now a 10 comes on the river. This card really pisses me off. I probably should have checked, but I thought he might have 2nd or 3rd pair, so I put out a value bet... $5. He goes all in ($20).

I folded and he did not show.

Thoughts? I had him covered, but not by much.

You probably saved yourself $20. I had similar situation come up when I had AA UTG +1 in a live 3/6/12 game. I raised pre-flop and got 3 callers including BB. Flop came 10 high I bet and only BB calls. Turn blank, I bet BB calls. River is another 10. BB checks and I bet 6. BB raises me 12 more. I reluctantly call and he shows Q10. Looking back, I knew there was no way he can raise me without a 10 in his hand but I called anyway.

I think it was a good move. One that I am probably capable of doing. I did the same thing yesterday and felt good about it but my villain didnt showed, but he later told me that he would like to be able of doing what I did "if I had the cowboys". He told me he had me beat.. Another thing was the river could have given a backdoor flush. I thought for ten seconds and folded.

I would like to think those kind of moves are making my game better. You did the right thing.

He had position on me. If I check here I am almost surely gonna have to make a decision about whether to call a river bet anyway. I think the bet out of posiiton here might induce a call, and given the raise all-in I am now reasonably sure he is not bluffing.
