Do I even bother raising for info here ?

Postby DaHitDogg » Mon Jul 18, 2005 7:56 pm

Party $1/$2 - 10 handed, all full stacks

2 limpers to me in the Cutoff w/ Ad Ah -- I raise to $12, 1 guy calls in MP (no read on opp) Pot = $27

* Note, my biggest leak is overplaying over pairs, so I was trying to be more careful with them.

Flop is 4s 5c 8s

Opponent leads for $20

Should I raise in case he's on a draw or give it up immediately?

If he's capable of leading with a draw there, you could just flat call and then pop him on the turn if a non-spade hits (except a 9 or 3 maybe).

No way can you fold, since he very well could be betting something like 99-QQ checking you for AK. The options are raise or call, unless he's tricky and aggressive I am leaning towards raising. If he re-raises you might consider folding, but folding immediatly here is just super-weak. Remember that most people actually DON'T lead with sets, they check-raise them, but they DO lead with over-pairs.

What have you seen or suspected him calling raises with before? This could be a very bad flop for AA in a bunch of ways. I wouldn't give up immediatly but I would hate to raise it up proper here and I hate a minimum raise too. I like smooth calling and playing for the turn, and might raise if he makes a weak blocking bet type thing.

I too like Ais's raise to 80. I like it b/c you find out exactly where you are in the hand.

That being said, if he calls and then leads the turn and if that lead is a strong bet, I'm out. I give him credit for the set. (I assume no flush card)

If he is going to lead into the raiser like that with nothing, then I'll get him later. He's fishy.
