A few quick hands

Postby briachek » Tue May 17, 2005 8:24 pm

These hands aren't complicated but I want to make sure I am playing right so I just want to see some comments on the little things.

Hand 1

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.5 BB (9 handed)

UTG+1 ($41.55)
MP1 ($72.73)
MP2 ($51.15)
Hero ($50.15)
CO ($52.25)
Button ($69.95)
SB ($31.5)
BB ($71.7)
UTG ($44.35)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with [Kc], [Ac].
3 folds, MP2 calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2, 4 folds, MP2 calls $1.50.

Flop: ($4.75) [Ah], [5d], [6s] (2 players)
MP2 checks, Hero bets $4, MP2 calls $4.

Turn: ($12.75) [4c] (2 players)
MP2 checks, Hero bets $9, MP2 calls $9.

River: ($30.75) [Qs] (2 players)
MP2 checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: $30.75

Results in white below:
MP2 has 9h As (one pair, aces).
Hero has Kc Ac (one pair, aces).
Outcome: Hero wins $30.75.

Should I have bet the river too? I put him on an ace so maybe I should have because if he had AQ or two pair before the river, I would have likely have been raised.

Hand 2

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.5 BB (10 handed)

UTG ($158.95)
UTG+1 ($35.5)
UTG+2 ($50)
MP1 ($47.1)
Hero ($84.8)
MP3 ($248.67)
CO ($16)
Button ($43.85)
SB ($124.45)
BB ($27.61)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [Js], [Jd]. UTG+2 posts a blind of $0.5.
2 folds, UTG+2 (poster) checks, 1 fold, Hero raises to $2, 4 folds, BB calls $1.50, UTG+2 folds.

Flop: ($4.75) [Ac], [Th], [3s] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $4, BB calls $4.

Turn: ($12.75) [2s] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($12.75) [9s] (2 players)
BB bets $6, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $18.75

Results in white below:
BB has Qd Jc (high card, ace).
Outcome: BB wins $18.75.

This hand pretty standard. Villian was loose but never really got out of line. Since I checked the turn after he called the flop, I gave him credit for the ace since any other draw meant gutshot, which he had. What do you think?

Hand 3

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.5 BB (10 handed)

CO ($160.7)
Button ($40.5)
SB ($9)
BB ($47.2)
Hero ($68.5)
UTG+1 ($233.12)
UTG+2 ($81)
MP1 ($45.85)
MP2 ($82.3)
MP3 ($35.56)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Ac], [Ks].
Hero calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50, UTG+2 raises to $2, 6 folds, BB calls $1.50, Hero folds, UTG+1 calls $1.50.

Flop: ($6.75) [4h], [Js], [Jc] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 bets $4, UTG+2 folds, BB folds.

Final Pot: $10.75

Results in white below:
No showdown. UTG+1 wins $10.75.

Ok, I know I am gonna get flamed for being extremely weak tight on this hand but the raiser was tight and didn't raise preflop much so I gave him credit for a big hand and decided I didn't want to play it out of position. Would this just be a normal call preflop and check/fold on flop? I am not a fan raising this hand UTG. A limp reraise might be good against a loose raiser but this is not the guy to do it against.

Brian... here goes...

hand 1... I probably would have made a small bet on the river... He made no real sign of aggression, and seemed more like a calling station... If he had something that beat you (ie... trips, 2pr) he would have raised the turn, or at least bet out the river...

hand 2... I don't see anything wrong w/ it... you raised w/ the most dreaded of hands, you got a crap flop, bet out trying to represent an ace, got called (which I would assume means he has an ace), and I'm done w/ the hand... If that makes me weak tight, so be it... I've seen tons of guys hit the ace and just let you bet into them all day, and then take control on the river... I think you saved yourself a couple bucks...

hand 3... I'm not a fan of raising most any hand UTG, unless its an extremely tight table... I probably would have limp/called, or possibly limp/raised, depending on the table texture... But, I would've check/folded w/ that flop...

Hope that helps (probably not)...

hand 1: gotta value bet, I get passive like that sometimes with just top pair, but if has you beat he's not going to check the river. (not often anyway)

hand 2: standard play in my book. Take 1 shot and give it up

hand 3: I'm raising this one, if the guy is as tight as you say he is then he will probably fold or reraise and you have a better idea of what to do.
