flop aggression...how much is too much?

Postby ua1176 » Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:12 am

my flop aggression rating in PT keeps going up....getting to the point where im not sure that it's a good thing. over the last 3k hands or so...my flop AF is upwards of 10, and is about to hit 7 for the total of the 6k hands in my PT database.

my issue is that i rarely see value in calling a bet on the flop. i almost always raise or fold. with a strong hand...i bet/raise. with a mediocre hand....i'll either fold...or sometimes bet/raise if i feel i'm up against either a continuation bet or someone who plays scared. with a draw, i'll either fold against too much action or bet/raise to buy a free turn card/disguise my hand. i've even started check-raising with draws sometimes.

the only times i'll really smooth-call a flop bet is with something like the nut flush or top full house, or top set on a draw-free board, or against a player who min-bets the flop with his monsters giving me ridiculous pot odds. and even in some of those situations, sometimes i'll raise it up. i have to have a very specific reason to call or check/call, raither than bet, raise, or fold.

so.....is this a problem? i've been smacking around the microstakes prima games pretty good....but i don't want good results to cloud my judgment on my play, and i'm very curious to hear some thoughts from more advanced players as to what instances they feel would justify a passive flop action.

thanks,

jon

My flop aggression is 6.57
My raise percentage is higher than my call percentage.

Everyone plays different styles, so I dont think theres necessarily ideal numbers, but these are working for me.
