flopped straight vs. a flush draw

Postby Jarren » Tue Jul 19, 2005 12:02 pm

sorry about no converter, at work it is blocked because it is "gambling" and oddly enough this site isn't

pokerstars $25 NL

I have a full stack, as does my opponent.

9h Th on the button, three limpers to me, I call, the BB checks

flop comes 7c 8c Jh.

BB bets out for .25 (min bet)

UTG raises it up $1.50, MP calls, I re-raise it $5

Only the UTG calls.

Turn card is a club

check, check

river card is another 8
he bets $4

Any chance this guy doesn't have a flush? Any way you don't call a $4 bet into that pot (right around $15).

Would you have pushed all-in on the flop or how would you have played this one?

I would have probably made it about $10 to go on the Flop. This crushes any odds he has to draw to the flush, unless he thinks he can stack you if he hits it.

With the way you played it, I would have also checked the turn and check/called the river bet, you are getting 3-1 on your money and he could be holding AJ, A8, or J-7.

Unless this player has shown tendancies to try to outplay his opponnents I would have bet the turn. The level of NL this is is a level where players play cards, not palyers. Many opponnents at this level aren't thinking, that club card probably killed him and this is a great time to steal the pot. By checking the turn your showing weakness and he is going to bet that river on a bluff sometimes now and force you to fold. Your hand can't improve by giving a free card, it can only get beat more: IE: any club, or board pairing. I advocate betting 3/4 pot on the turn and seeing where the action takes you. Any call then river lead you have to fold. Any check-raise you have to fold without further information. However, you must realize there is a very good chance your ahead going into the turn. He easily could have TP or Top 2 or a set.

elite

what do you do if you bet 3/4 of the pot on the turn and he smooth calls? and worse, smooth calls then bets into you on the river?
