Folding TPTK on a Non-Coordinated Flop

Postby majakovskij » Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:59 pm

Button was loose-aggressive. I wanted to call, but I couldn't do it. I just let the time run out... Thing was, I had taken two bad beats and was down $70. I think I would've smashed my computer, had I lost another stack. So I passed. Would you have hit the call button?

What would you put this guy on digital? Set maybe? I have a hard time believing he would move in on a flop like that with a set. Maybe if he min raised it would be easier to give him credit for a set. What else is left? two pair? Just wondering, I'm a newb.

I very much doubt a set... it's so rare to find someone play a set that strongly.

89, AK, AJ, AQ are all possibilites. tough call though.

For varience's sake..it's a good laydown.

I could see him playing something like 67 suited as well. I like to call raises with suited connectors on the button sometimes, just so I can hit flops like this. On my tables, people would not be diciplined enough to lay down TPTK and I would stack them.

twelver,

Would you push on the flop, and still expect to get called??

I probably would not push on the flop, b/c I think there is a better chance of getting more money out of the villan if I only raise to around $10 or so. Chances are, he would probably then come back over the top of me, and I could then go all in.

However, if I did push all in...with the villan holding AK I would expect to get called probably 8/10 times at this level

I would agree that two-pair is more likely than a set here. Some people play bottom two very hard because of the risk of getting outdrawn. Either way I think it is a good laydown, and one that separates good players from bad. Even if you folded to a bluff here disciplined play like this will pay off in the long run.

Good Fold.... just another hand to remind us that s*** happens.

This is how I see it: He hit his set and thought you might not be able to lay down AK or KK. I you are aggressive preflop that move may not be bad at all at those stakes. There are so many people who cant let go TPTK or even KK in a board like that, that it might be profitable to play a flopped set like that againsta preflop raiser, in case the raiser is not a rock, in which case the AA should be considered.

I wouldnt play them like that though.
