Hello and welcome!

I have been away from the forum for almost 3 weeks because I decided to run an experiment and play some limit. When I first started playing, I did it in party´s limit 0.5/1 and I only lose. Not much but lose. I played there for about two weeks single tabling and was trying to play really tight and not chase, but my patience wasnt so good. I felt frustrated because my flopped TPTK almost never help up. I left party and went to prima. It was worst. After complaining about my bad luck a friend told me that I should try NL. I told him that I was going to deposit 100 to give it a final try. A few days after the conversation I heard the term "Bonuswhore" and found it interesting :D . I prepared a program and after that my bankroll started growing. I wasnt beating the game but was breaking even and the bonus gave me the money to start building my roll. I found about 2+2 and this forum (think this one is much better...quality.... made me left 2+2) and read a couple books, BOUGHT POKERTRACKER and all of the sudden, oops, I am winning!

Right now I have more than 1.4K USD in my bankroll, and i am taking money from it (in fact all that exceeds 1200) and I am till playing NL$25 because I am not winning at the desirable rate of 10PTBB/100 hands that I see some guys achieving.

Now, the point of all this talking is that I have noticed and prooved that limit players are sooooooo much worse than NL. I have been playing limit 1/2 for about 18K hands and I am doing 1.9PTBB/100 hands and that is much more than what i do in NL25 in absolute terms (more money) and with less risk, given that the roll for 1/2 is slightly smaller than the required for NL25. I have been on crazy downswings at limit too (dont know what the hell is wrong with me, but I lose too many times being 85% favorite, I really do!) but I understand that this is only because of how many players are in the showdown in limit games.

I know NL is much more fun, but I am thinking at this point that limit games could be more profitable. I would like to know some of the experts opinions on this issue. I want to let you know that I am only a rookie (been playing for 6month now) who try to learn something in every day, in every hand.

Returning to the NL suggestions, I would recommendthat you stay on the Prima´s NL10 tables until you have at least 500. Also, chase the bonuses!!! They will help a lot. These suggestions are BR related, about the game wiser guys are going to talk later.

A few things to get started:

1.-FOLD.
2.-Buy POkerTracker and find your leaks.
3.-Try not to chase (you r a limit player that why I tell you this) without the correct odds!
4.-Remember it s NO LIMIT: when you have a hand, BET!
5.-Play more position and be aggressive. You can keep track of this in PT.
6.-FOLD.
7.- Maybe you have to rethink about moving to NL if the main reason is to win more money.
6.- Re evaluate hands ratings: NL players are better than Limit´s,. TPTK is not a hand that has to necesarily get to the showdown.
7.-FOLD!
8.-Chase the bonus.

That is all I can think of.

Hope it helps.

CJ I am a limit convert as well. I recommend the following changes to your limit game.

1. Play any pocket pair from any position for a limp or a bet that is 5% or less of your stack or your opponents stack, whichever is smaller (implied odds) and fold on the flop if you dont make a set.

If you hit the flop Bet the Pot and raise if bet into.

This one alone is probably the biggest money maker I have found.

2. If you hit TPTK on the flop bet or raise a small bet but if someone pushes all in you are probably beat. TPTK is not an all in hand unless there are very convincing reasons (other draws like flush or straight for you).

You will learn this one fast and it also applies to overpairs although they are harder to lay down.

3. Don't slow play much. Especially if you are starting at the $25 tables or below. People will call you even if you have the nuts and its better to win a small pot by folding everyone out than lose a big one by letting some chaser catch you.

4. Just like in limit Don't bother bluffing much. I don't think you give up much money longterm by never bluffing.

I am sure there are other Limit converts out there who can provide more advice.

Also I disagree with ALEXMR about winning. I win more money at NL than I did at limit.

For comparison I made about 1.5 BB/100 hands at 2/4 limit. At 200 hands per hour (3 or 4 tables at a time) I was making 1.5 * 4 * 2 = $12.00 / Hr. In NL I make about 9.5 BB/100 hands at $50 NL. At 200 hands per hour (4 tables at a time) I am making 9.5 *2(PT conversion)* .50 * 2 = $19.00 / Hr. I believe the 2/4 limit and the $50 NL game are comparable as far as the skill level of your opponents.

BKAz,

My problem is that I have never been able to take my win rate above 3.8PTBB/100 hands over a considerable amount of hands (above 15K). I told Cactus jack that.

I am back to NL and I am almost into a losing streak. I managed to not get desperate or at least to stay away from the tables when I am feeling anxious.

I will start a little exercise consisting of taking notes of all the mistakes I make in a session with the amount lost, and also take notes of the hands I am oudrawn being the favorite and how much money I lost in those situations. I simply cant believe my luck lately.
