AA Hand. Standard?

Postby Mad Genius » Thu Jun 02, 2005 9:58 pm

No read on opponent. This is pretty much standard but there's gotta be a better way to get his stack in the middle with what is obviously QQ/KK. How do you like a flop overbet? A turn underbet? I find there to be a lot of ways to play hands like this where you have an accurate read.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $10 BB (9 handed)

Hero ($1071)
BB ($2337.75)
UTG ($860.50)
UTG+1 ($642)
MP1 ($1683.60)
MP2 ($103.75)
MP3 ($1000)
CO ($2524)
Button ($1109)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [As], [Ah].
UTG raises to $30, 6 folds, Hero raises to $120, 1 fold, UTG calls $90.

Flop: ($250) [6d], [5d], [8h] (2 players)
Hero bets $180, UTG calls $180.

Turn: ($610) [Jc] (2 players)
Hero bets $771 (All-In)

Final Pot: $1381

Assuming that you are definately in your mind putting him on QQ/KK which I think seems reasonable in this scenario, and then the way that you played the flop. I think a turn underbet would be a great play. It would surely make him think enough that he may want to raise to define his hand and hopefully in the process pot commit himself. So my opinion is, play it the same, then underbet the turn.

On the turn I like to make a bet over half the remaining stack of the opponent, to basically force him to push all in. The result would be the same, but I think a lot of people will think twice as much about calling an all in as pushing after a bet. Your all-in shows very much strength, a smaller bet suggest to him you could have a weaker hand like JJ.

Your opponent had 560 left, 610 in the pot. I would probably bet something under 400.

I had this exact situation come up yesterday.

I tried to check teh turn (make it look like a missed AK)...to get him to put in his stack.... or at least bet something. It didn't work..he checked right behind.

River was garbage...I just moved all-in, which he called. He had KK, I had AA. I could have just continued on the turn and accomplished the same thing.

I think you can at least get by with full pot on the flop. The board has clearly missed him. Depending on how the table plays, you might get by with a little bit of an overbet, but, I don't know, I'd probably just hit it with exactly $250, although I don't see how he can lay down at least up to around $300.

And I like underbetting the turn as well.
