Huge AK suited hand

Postby kennyg » Wed Apr 20, 2005 10:22 pm

1/2 NL Prima
No read on villian.
I have about $333. Villian has me covered.

I have [Ad][Kd] in UTG +1. UTG (villian) raises to $12. I call. Two other opponents behind me call.

FLOP $51
[Ks][6d][Th]

I have TPTK with a backdoor flush draw. UTG bets $24. I raise to $60. Folded back to villian who calls.

TURN $171
[Ks][6d][Th][As]

Villian checks. I genuinely thought for a couple of seconds and bet $120. He calls.

RIVER $411
[Ks][6d][Th][As][9s]

Villian checks. I think and think..almost don't bet..but do end up moving in my last $117.

Thoughts on this hand??? Well played, badly played??? All comments appreicated. Results later.

Well... what kind of hands would he raise UTG 6xBB with...? AA, KK, AK... 2 out of 3 of those, you lose & 1 you split... What were you hoping he had, QQ...? That's about the only hand he could possibly have that you have beat, and I don't think he would've called a $120 turn bet w/ a gutshot draw...

I like your flop raise, but I think I might have checked behind on the turn, or at least checked the river if he called your turn bet...

If I was a betting man (and obviously I am cause I'm here), I think he had AA, bet out the flop like he should've (maybe underbet), and checked the turn and river because you obviously liked your hand, were betting it, and he was pretty sure he had you beat... Possibly he checked the river fearing the flush?

Just my rambling (probably wrong) thoughts... MVP

Is folding preflop an option here?

I like flop and turn. I check behind on river. AQ, KQ and QQ are possible holdings if he is a bad player, but he has a big stack and is probably a good player. I think he has AK but a strangely played set is not impossible.

Kenny,

What are you thinking about on the river? Hands that beat you? Hands that you have beat that will call?

What did you conclude?

I can't bet that river against a preflop raiser. I can't imagine him calling with anything I can beat. If I have a read that he's a total fish calling station, OK, do it. Otherwise I'm delighted to get to showdown for free.

I suppose you could fold the other player if he also has AK. That's about the only plus from betting here against a decent player that I can see.

Maybe he's like Iceman and raises suited connectors UTG? But then what would he be calling the turn bet with? Just a gutshot? Nahh, doesn't make sense.

In short, if this is my hand, I am just confused at the river and check it down.

No way I check behind on this river. Villian will not check a better hand than TOP2pr on the river when the pot is already humongous. I can't really see how you are beaten here, and plenty of worse hands might call you, which I think is reason to push it in.

OK, AQ does make sense. He only bet a little less than half the pot on the flop, a dead giveaway (in retrospect!!) that he had zip and was just following up his preflop raise. Why he called your raise on that flop is beyond me, though. Looking to suckout a straight? Wow. I mean, I can see myself making that flop call, but only if I'm playing pretty badly.

But I can't see myself check/calling for my whole stack with AQ on that board. No fricking way.

Conclusion: the guys at the $1/$2 tables aren't any better than I am. Sheesh. Time to work harder and move up faster.
