Juanda vs Townsend

Postby MTPaid » Fri Sep 28, 2007 5:06 pm

Originally was going to post this in the BTP Community just because I found the entire thing amusing and pretty entertaining. From Juanda's chat to the expression on Cunningham's avatar. Then I realized it might have some actual strategy merit discussion type thingy to it and decided to put it here.

Juanda called after taking extra time. Townsend showed the [Jd][Td]. Juanda typed: "I'm terrible" or something like that and left.

From a pure poker standpoint though, what does Townsend need to make this play? The Ace? Is a bluff profitable here at all? What about Juanda's check-call?

I posted that last one at the same time as you Triple B, so I guess I was a little off with my pre-flop 4-bet guess :D

AA is really the only hand Juanda can have here really (now that we know he called).

I'm not sure its a great call though...Brian has repped the J the whole way and this is 200BB deep. Still, I think most people would call here.

Really dont like John J's play here, the turn card makes it a lot harder to fold but on the river Townsend isn't bluffing, he had a hand on the flop. There is no draw that he was semibluffing. I guess he could have had a seven but his river push isnt a seven, especially after he gets called twice. The fact that he has AA makes it even more likely to be up against a J after Townsend pushs after the rivered ace.

Sick hand either way. That is a seriously tough table, A couple shorties and 3 top pros.
